Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter Hits Massive 8 Lakh Sales Milestone
Bajaj Auto’s iconic Chetak electric scooter has officially surpassed 800,000 cumulative retail sales, cementing its position as a dominant force in India’s rapidly evolving electric two wheeler market.
As of June 27, 2026, government Vahan portal data confirms that Bajaj has delivered a total of 800,085 Chetak e-scooters since its initial launch in January 2020. This achievement makes Bajaj the third electric two wheeler manufacturer in India to reach the 8-lakh unit milestone, trailing only industry leaders Ola Electric and TVS Motor Co.
A Record-Breaking Year for Bajaj Chetak
The surge in Chetak sales reflects a shift in consumer preference toward reliable, high performance electric mobility.
-
Accelerating Growth: Demand for the Chetak skyrocketed in 2024, with annual deliveries exceeding 2 lakh units a 168% increase compared to 2023.
-
On Track for New Records: In the first half of 2026 alone, Bajaj delivered 211,356 units. With consistent monthly sales averaging over 35,000 units, the company is well positioned to cross the 400,000 annual sales mark for the first time by the end of 2026.
-
Market Share Expansion: Bajaj’s market share in the electric two wheeler segment has grown steadily, climbing from just 4% in 2022 to a robust 22% in the first half of 2026.
Strategic Drivers of Success
Bajaj Auto’s success in the electric vehicle (EV) space is attributed to a combination of manufacturing excellence and an expanding network. The Chetak and Yulu models are manufactured at the company’s Chakan and Akurdi plants, which boast a combined annual production capacity of 480,000 units.
Furthermore, the brand has focused on accessibility, supporting its sales with over 4,100 service touchpoints across India to ensure a "lifeproof" experience for its growing customer base.
"The rapid rise in the Bajaj Chetak’s sales is reflected in its increasing market share," industry analysts noted, highlighting that the Chetak has successfully transitioned from a niche offering to one of the most important volume pillars for the Bajaj brand. As competition intensifies, Bajaj remains firmly in the race, trailing only TVS in year to date sales for 2026 while staying ahead of major players like Ather Energy and Hero Vida.
