Ather Energy is gearing up for a massive disruption in the mass-market electric two-wheeler segment. The Bengaluru-based EV maker has officially named its highly anticipated upcoming electric scooter the Ather Konarc. Originally previewed as the EL01 concept, the production-ready Konarc is set to make its official debut in India on August 29, 2026, during the Ather Community Day event.

Positioned to be the brand's most affordable offering to date, the Konarc is designed to capture high-volume sales by sitting right in the heart of the family and commuter e-scooter segment.

Built on the All-New Scalable EL Platform

Marking a significant shift in Ather’s manufacturing approach, the Konarc moves away from the aluminum-heavy construction seen in the 450 series and the Rizta. Instead, it introduces a robust full-steel unibody architecture based on the brand's new EL platform. Despite the shift to steel, the overall weight increase is expected to be negligible, ensuring the scooter retains Ather's signature agility.

This highly scalable architecture has been engineered to support various body styles, price points, and battery pack sizes, making it a cornerstone for Ather's future mass-market expansion.

Battery, Range, and Charging Hardware

Ather has designed the EL platform to be highly adaptable when it comes to battery capacity. The Konarc is expected to be offered with multiple battery configurations, ranging anywhere from 2 kWh up to 5 kWh, giving buyers the flexibility to choose a variant based on their range requirements and budget.

Additionally, the scooter will feature a direct-drive motor and will come equipped with an integrated onboard charger, eliminating the need for riders to carry a bulky portable charging brick in the boot.

Design and Key Features

Remaining largely faithful to the EL01 concept, the production-ready Ather Konarc brings several fresh design elements and segment-firsts for the brand:

• Segment-First Wheels: The Konarc will be the first Ather scooter to ride on a larger 14-inch front wheel, paired with a 12-inch rear wheel, promising superior high-speed stability and better handling over rough patches.

• Lighting & Display: The front apron is dominated by a sleek, full-width LED daytime running light with an illuminated 'Ather' wordmark. The cockpit is expected to feature a 7-inch TFT instrument console equipped with comprehensive smartphone connectivity.

• Hardware: Suspension duties are managed by telescopic front forks and a single rear shock absorber positioned closer to the tail for increased suspension travel. Braking will rely on a front disc brake (expected as standard) and a rear drum setup.

Expected Pricing and Market Rivals

To aggressively target the mass market, the Ather Konarc is expected to carry a highly competitive price tag. Industry estimates suggest an introductory starting price dipping below the ₹ 1 lakh mark, with top-spec variants going up to ₹ 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom).

To make the initial acquisition cost even more attractive, Ather may also introduce a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model for the Konarc.
