Bengaluru-based River Mobility has hit a major milestone, registering 1,518 units of its Indie electric scooter in July 2025, marking its best-ever monthly sales to date. With cumulative sales now crossing 9,000 units, the startup is rapidly emerging as a strong contender in India’s booming electric two-wheeler market.

Indie E-Scooter Demand Surges

The River Indie has seen consistent growth since the launch of its refreshed model in late 2024. Equipped with a 4 kWh NMC battery pack, the Indie offers a 161 km IDC range, 0-40 km/h acceleration in 3.7 seconds, and a top speed of 90 km/h. The model also boasts India’s largest 43-litre under-seat storage and 55 litres of total lockable space, making it a practical urban EV.

Cumulative sales between January-July 2025 stand at 6,561 units, accounting for 71% of total sales since launch. River Mobility is on track to cross 10,000-unit sales by the end of the year, a significant achievement for a startup competing with giants like Ola Electric, TVS, and Bajaj.

Strategic Network Expansion

River Mobility is aggressively expanding its retail footprint across India. Currently operating in key southern markets like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi, the company plans to enter 100+ cities by 2026 through a mix of company-owned and partner outlets. Western and Northern India are also on the radar as the Indie gains traction beyond its home market.

Yamaha-River High-Performance E-Scooter Incoming

One of the biggest developments for River is its strategic partnership with Yamaha Motor Co. The Japanese giant invested $40 million in River during its Series B funding round in 2024. Together, the companies are co-developing a high-performance global electric scooter, codenamed RY01, based on the River Indie platform.

The RY01, aimed at both Indian and global markets, is currently undergoing testing and is expected to launch in late 2025, possibly during the festive season. With Yamaha’s engineering expertise and River’s manufacturing capabilities, the partnership is set to shake up the electric two-wheeler segment.

Festive Season Outlook

With Ola Electric focusing on festive launches and traditional OEMs like TVS and Bajaj facing raw material constraints due to rare earth magnet shortages, River has an opportunity to capitalise on market demand with the Indie and its upcoming Yamaha-backed scooter. A strong festive push could propel the company into higher rankings in India’s Top 10 e-2W chart.
