Ather Energy Begins Rollout of Pothole+ Alerts: Real-Time Road Hazard Warnings for 450X, Apex & Rizta Z
Ather Energy has officially commenced the rollout of its much-anticipated Pothole+ Alerts feature for its connected electric scooter lineup. Designed to enhance rider safety through crowd-sourced road intelligence, the new software update is heading to Gen 2 and newer Ather models across India.
Initially teased during Ather’s 2025 Community Day event, the feature leverages data aggregated from connected vehicles to warn riders of upcoming road hazards during active navigation.
How Ather’s Pothole+ Alerts Work
The Pothole+ system utilizes onboard computing and cloud-based fleet intelligence to detect and notify riders about dangerous road conditions ahead. Key hazard notifications include:
-
Deep potholes and broken road patches
-
Uneven road surfaces
-
Unexpected speed breakers

Seamless Multi-Modal Alerts
To ensure riders can maintain visual focus on the traffic ahead without getting distracted by their screens, Ather has integrated dual-channel alerts:
-
Visual Warnings: Real-time hazard alerts displayed directly on the scooter’s digital dashboard.
-
Audio Alerts: Voice notifications played through the scooter speakers, the Ather Halo smart helmet, or paired Bluetooth headsets.

Eligible Ather Electric Scooter Models
The over-the-air (OTA) software update is rolling out in phases for Gen 2 and newer hardware platforms. Supported models include:
Why Did the Feature Take Time to Launch?
While the capability was previewed months ago, the development timeline required extensive data collection. Because the feature relies heavily on crowd-sourced road intelligence, Ather needed to build a robust, high-volume dataset compiled over time from its active connected fleet on Indian roads.
Ather CEO Tarun Mehta highlighted the milestone on social media, noting that the feature is now live to help navigate India’s challenging urban and highway road infrastructure safely.
What This Means for EV Riders
With connected vehicle technology rapidly evolving in the Indian electric two-wheeler market, safety features are moving beyond basic navigation and range tracking. By integrating proactive hazard warnings, Ather Energy is setting a new benchmark for software-defined vehicles (SDVs) in the domestic EV sector, offering practical utility that directly addresses everyday riding conditions.
