Ather 450X Gets Game-Changing 'Infinite Cruise' Feature via OTA: Everything You Need to Know
In a significant move for the Indian EV market, Ather Energy has announced the rollout of its advanced Infinite Cruise™ feature for the Ather 450X. Previously available only on the performance-focused 450 Apex, this feature is now being pushed to the 450X lineup via an Over-the-Air (OTA) update.
Designed specifically for chaotic Indian roads, Infinite Cruise™ promises to change how riders navigate stop-and-go traffic by remaining active even after braking—a first for the segment.
Key Highlights
-
What is it : A smart cruise control system that stays active after braking or accelerating.
-
Speed Range: Works between 10 kmph and 90 kmph.
-
Availability: Standard on new models; free OTA update for owners who bought scooters after Jan 1, 2025.
-
Core Tech: Integrates Hill Control, CityCruise, and Crawl Control.
What Makes Infinite Cruise™ Different?
Standard cruise control systems found in cars and rival scooters are designed for highways. They typically disengage the moment a rider touches the brakes or throttle, making them useless in city traffic.
Ather’s Infinite Cruise™ is engineered for the urban commute. According to the company’s press statement released today, the system remains persistently active even after rider inputs. If you brake to slow down for a speed bump or accelerate to overtake, the system simply recalibrates to the new speed without requiring you to press the ‘set’ button again.
This feature aims to drastically reduce rider fatigue in dense traffic conditions where speeds are usually below 30 kmph.
Three Modes for City Riding
The Infinite Cruise system isn't just about holding speed; it uses Ather's Magic Braking Algorithm and Multimode Traction Control to handle different terrains:
-
CityCruise: Adapts to frequent speed changes, allowing for seamless cruising in fluctuating traffic.
-
Hill Control: A major bonus for riders in hilly terrains. It maintains a steady speed on inclines and declines by compensating for load changes and using regenerative braking.
-
Crawl Control: Designed for broken roads, this ensures stable low-speed cruising on uneven surfaces, aided by traction control for slippery conditions.
Is Your Ather 450X Eligible for the Update?
Ather Energy is prioritizing backward compatibility. The company has confirmed that the feature is not just for new buyers.
-
New Buyers: The feature comes standard on the 2026 Ather 450X.
-
Existing Owners: If you purchased your Ather 450X on or after January 1, 2025, you are eligible.
-
Rollout Scope: Approximately 44,000 existing customers will receive this update starting today.
How to Update
Riders do not need to visit a service center. The update is being pushed Over-The-Air. You will see an on-screen notification on your scooter’s dashboard when the update is ready to install.
Ather’s Vision for Software-Defined Vehicles
The introduction of Infinite Cruise™ on the 450X (priced starting at ₹147,998 ex-showroom, Bengaluru) reinforces Ather’s strategy of treating scooters as evolving tech products. By using the hardware capabilities of the 2025 450 series, Ather is able to unlock new performance features months or years after a customer has made a purchase.
