VinFast and Autobrains Partner to Launch Low-Cost ‘Robo-Car’ Self Driving Tech

In a move set to disrupt the global autonomous vehicle market, Vietnamese EV powerhouse VinFast has announced a strategic partnership with Israeli AI firm Autobrains to develop a high performance, low cost self driving system.

The collaboration aims to democratize Level 4 autonomous driving by moving away from expensive hardware like LiDAR and HD mapping in favor of a sophisticated, vision based AI architecture.

Breaking the Cost Barrier for Self-Driving EVs

The primary goal of the VinFast Autobrains partnership is the development of a scalable "Robo-Car" system. While many competitors rely on hardware heavy sensor suites that can add tens of thousands of dollars to a vehicle's price, this new system utilizes:

  • Seven standard cameras for 360 degree vision.

  • High performance computing chips to process real time data.

  • Agentic AI technology from Autobrains, which allows vehicles to navigate complex environments without the need for pre installed High Definition (HD) maps.

By utilizing Autobrains’ "Air-to-Road" localization which cross references satellite imagery with real time camera feeds the system significantly reduces the production costs of electric vehicles (EVs) while maintaining high safety standards.

Testing on VF 8 and VF 9 Models

VinFast has already begun pilot testing the L2++ (enhanced driver assistance) and Level 4 capabilities on its flagship VF 8 and VF 9 electric SUVs.

Initial trials are currently taking place in controlled zones in Hanoi. However, both companies have confirmed plans to scale this technology for a global rollout, targeting urban environments where traditional autonomous systems often struggle with cost and infrastructure requirements.

Why Thhis Matters for the EV Industry

This partnership marks a significant shift toward "Software Defined Vehicles." By proving that Level 4 autonomy can be achieved through vision-based AI and standard camera hardware, VinFast and Autobrains are positioning themselves as direct competitors to the "Vision Only" approach popularized by Tesla.

For VinFast, this move strengthens its position in the competitive global EV market, offering tech savvy consumers advanced autonomous features at a more accessible price point than luxury rivals.
