VinFast's Green SM EV Taxi Service Launches in Delhi-NCR: Fleet, Pricing, and Impact

In a major shakeup for the Indian ride-hailing market, Vingroup-the parent company of Vietnamese automaker VinFast—has officially launched its all-electric taxi service, Green SM, today on World Environment Day.

Starting its initial phase in the Delhi-NCR region, Green SM aims to disrupt the existing duopoly of Ola and Uber by offering a fully controlled electric fleet, zero surge pricing, and a premium commuter experience.

Here is a detailed breakdown of the Green SM launch, the vehicles being used, and the strategic roadmap for VinFast in India.

The Green SM Fleet: Exclusively VinFast EVs

Unlike traditional aggregator models where driver-partners utilize mixed-brand vehicles, Green SM operates a 100% company-controlled electric fleet. This rollout brings two specific VinFast models to Indian roads:

  • VinFast VF 5 : Operating as the standard compact EV for daily city commutes, offering premium cabin space and dedicated climate control.

  • Limo Green (VF 7 Variant) : Serving the premium and larger group segment, this 7-seater MPV is equipped with a high-capacity 60.13 kWh battery, ensuring long operational range and exceptional passenger comfort.

By owning the fleet directly, Vingroup ensures strict quality control over vehicle maintenance, cleanliness, and air conditioning—addressing major pain points for daily Indian commuters.

Zero Surge Pricing & Launch Offers

To capture immediate market share and drive app downloads, Green SM has introduced an aggressive pricing strategy:

  • Standard Rates : Early operational data suggests competitive pricing starting at approximately ₹8 per kilometer.

  • No Surge Pricing : Unlike competitors, Green SM promises a flat-rate structure, protecting riders from extreme price multipliers during peak hours or bad weather.

  • Promotional Discounts : To incentivize early adoption, the company is offering a 50% discount on initial rides booked through the newly launched Green SM app.

Eliminating the "Driver Cancellation" Problem

A defining feature of Green SM's operational model is its direct control over driver-partners. Because drivers are trained professionals operating company-owned vehicles, the prevalent issue of drivers demanding drop locations and abruptly canceling rides is effectively eliminated. This predictable, corporate-managed approach is expected to be a major draw for corporate commuters in Delhi, Gurugram, and Noida.

A Strategic Move Before Retail Sales

For VinFast, deploying Green SM is about more than capturing ride-hailing revenue—it is a massive, moving product demonstration.

Before VinFast officially launches its private retail vehicles to Indian consumers and fully operationalizes its upcoming manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, Green SM will allow thousands of daily commuters to physically experience the brand's build quality, cabin ergonomics, and ride comfort. This experiential marketing strategy is designed to build brand trust and familiarity ahead of their broader PAN-India retail rollout.

Green SM will expand to other major Indian cities in a phased manner, dictated by user demand and charging infrastructure readiness.
