VinFast’s V-GREEN Joins Forces with HPCL to Boost India’s EV Charging Infrastructure
In a major development for the Indian electric vehicle (EV) ecosystem, V-GREEN, the global charging infrastructure development company founded by VinFast’s Pham Nhat Vuong, has announced a strategic partnership with state-owned oil major Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL).
The collaboration aims to rapidly expand EV charging access across India by leveraging HPCL’s massive nationwide network of fuel stations.
Building the Backbone for VinFast in India
The agreement was signed by Mr. Nguyen Nam Tien, CEO of V-GREEN India, and Mr. Kushal Kumar Banerjee, CGM – Retail Strategy & BD at HPCL. Under this partnership, V-GREEN will set up Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS) at select HPCL retail outlets.
For VinFast, which is aggressively targeting the Indian automotive market, this move is a critical strategic play. By partnering with HPCL, V-GREEN bypasses the complex hurdles of land acquisition and secures prime real estate for its chargers. This infrastructure will serve as the foundation for the VinFast and HP e-Charge brands, ensuring that future VinFast owners in India have reliable charging access from day one.
Leveraging HPCL’s Massive Footprint
HPCL is one of India’s largest energy providers, making it an ideal partner for rapid scaling. The Maharatna corporation currently operates:
-
Over 24,400 Retail Outlets nationwide.
-
More than 5,300 EV Charging Stations under the HP e-Charge brand.
-
Over 150 Battery Swapping Stations.
"HPCL’s existing Retail Outlet footprint provides a strong platform for accelerated EV charging infrastructure deployment and seamless nationwide expansion," the companies stated in a press release. This collaboration aligns with HPCL’s goal to pivot toward green energy and electric mobility.
A Comprehensive EV Ecosystem
This partnership is part of a broader "ecosystem strategy" by VinFast and V-GREEN. Beyond just selling cars, the group is establishing a full value chain in India, encompassing:
-
Manufacturing: Local production facilities.
-
Infrastructure: The V-GREEN x HPCL charging network.
-
Services: After-sales support and battery recycling.
V-GREEN, established by VinFast founder Pham Nhat Vuong, already operates approximately 150,000 charging ports in Vietnam. The company acts as a dedicated infrastructure arm to support VinFast’s global expansion, with India identified as a key growth market alongside Indonesia and the Philippines.
The Road Ahead
As India accelerates its transition to green mobility, partnerships between legacy energy giants like HPCL and new-age EV disruptors like V-GREEN are becoming essential. This collaboration not only strengthens the charging network for the general public but also signals that VinFast is building a robust foundation to challenge established players in the world’s third-largest automotive market.
