UP to establish Rs 700-crore worth EV park in Kanpur under the ‘Vision 2030’
The Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) plans to establish a 500-acre state-of-the-art electric vehicle park near Bhimsen, Kanpur, along the Dedicated Freight Corridor as part of the Kanpur Metropolitan Development Vision 2030.
According to state officials, the project, which is expected to cost Rs 700 crore and be carried out under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, intends to establish Kanpur as a major participant in India's EV ecosystem. Strengthening the local electric car supply chain and encouraging domestic production are the main goals of the EV Park.
The EV park will have manufacturing units for lithium-ion cells, steel parts, electric motors, and chassis. Additionally, facilities for the assembly of electrical components, controllers, chargers, and lithium-ion batteries will be constructed. The project will include a specialised research and development (R&D) centre that will foster creativity and assist in the creation of cutting-edge products. It is anticipated that this R&D team would improve EV technology both locally and globally.
The construction of the EV Park will greatly strengthen the state's economy, in addition to positioning Kanpur as a centre for electric vehicle manufacture. To assist small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in the production of parts and components, an integrated EV components cluster is being constructed alongside the park. Significant jobs will be created in the area as a result of this project, which will open up new doors for regional businesses and entrepreneurs.
The park has a strategic advantage in terms of connectivity and logistics because of its close proximity to the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC). Its extensive rail and road connections ensure the efficient movement of both raw materials and finished items.
The proposal of the government of Uttar Pradesh is a big step forward for the conservation of the environment and the generation of green power. The project aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote the use of renewable energy by boosting EV manufacturing. The Kanpur Development Vision- 2030's EV Park will establish Kanpur as a major player in the world of electric car manufacture and stand as a testament to industrial innovation and advancement.
