Ultraviolette Disrupts EV Market with ‘Battery Flex’: X-47 Now Starts at ₹1.49 Lakh
In a move set to redefine the affordability of high performance electric motorcycles, Ultraviolette has officially launched ‘Battery Flex’, a specialized Battery as a Service (BaaS) program. This innovative ownership model, introduced in partnership with green only NBFC Ecofy, allows riders to own the Ultraviolette X-47 crossover at a significantly lower entry point.
Performance Mobility at an Accessible Price
Under the new Battery Flex initiative, the upfront cost of the Ultraviolette X-47 has been slashed by 40%, bringing the starting price down to just ₹1,49,000. Customers effectively pay for the vehicle's chassis upfront while financing the battery through a structured monthly subscription.
Key details of the BaaS model include:
-
Starting Price: ₹1,49,000 for the X-47 crossover.
-
Monthly Subscription: Battery plans begin at ₹2,499 per month.
-
Battery Ownership: Ownership of the battery pack transfers to the customer at the end of the subscription period at no additional cost.
-
Warranty Assurance: The battery pack comes with a comprehensive 5-year warranty.

Challenging the ICE Dominance
With this launch, Ultraviolette is directly targeting the internal combustion engine (ICE) segment. Narayan Subramaniam, CEO and Co-founder of Ultraviolette, highlighted that while the brand previously maintained price parity with ICE motorcycles at ₹2.5 lakh, the new ₹1.5 lakh price point offers superior technology and performance at a fraction of the traditional cost.
"With operating costs as low as ₹2,499 per month which is less than the average spend on petrol we are redefining what affordability means in motorcycling," Subramaniam stated.
Built on R&D and Strategic Partnerships
The program is powered by a collaboration with Ecofy, an NBFC dedicated to accelerating climate positive adoption. This partnership ensures that advanced EV technology is scalable and economically viable for the Indian consumer.
Niraj Rajmohan, CTO and Co-founder, emphasized that the BaaS model is backed by years of rigorous R&D. "Battery technology sits at the core of every electric vehicle... Battery Flex reflects our commitment to building technology that adapts to customer needs," Rajmohan added.
Enrollments for the Battery Flex program opened on March 5, 2026, offering a new gateway for riders to experience performance led mobility without the burden of high initial investment.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q : Can I finance the battery separately from the bike?
A : Yes. You may purchase the motorcycle shell using cash, card, credit, or loan, while the battery can be financed independently under the Battery Flex plan.
Q : Will I get the complete bike for ₹1,49,000?
A : No. ₹1,49,000 is the upfront cost for the motorcycle shell. The battery is paid for separately through a monthly usage-based plan.
Q : What happens if I miss the battery EMI but continue paying the bike EMI?
A : Both EMIs must be paid as scheduled. A default on either the bike EMI or the battery EMI will be treated as a payment default.
Q : Is the battery covered under warranty during the loan tenure?
A : Yes. The battery remains covered under the UV CARE PLUS warranty (5 years or 1,00,000 km, whichever comes first) throughout the loan tenure.
Q : If I ride more than average, will my battery loan close earlier?
A : Higher monthly usage results in higher monthly payments, which can lead to early loan closure.
Q : Do I need to return the battery after the loan tenure?
A : No. Once the loan tenure is completed, the ownership of the battery will be transferred to you.
Q : Can I pre-close the bike or battery loan?
A : Yes, pre-closure of both the bike loan and the battery loan is permitted.
Q : Will the Registration Certificate (RC) show separate hypothecation for the battery?
A : No. As per RTO norms, the motorcycle and battery pack are considered a single unit, and hypothecation applies to the complete vehicle.
Q : Will I receive separate NOCs for the bike and the battery after loan closure?
A : Yes. Separate No Objection Certificates (NOCs) will be issued for the bike and the battery.
Q : Who handles battery-related issues during the loan tenure?
A : Ultraviolette will manage battery-related issues as the battery remains under warranty during the loan period.
Q : Can I track my usage and payments through the Ultraviolette app?
A : Currently, detailed tracking is not available on the Ultraviolette app. However, you will receive weekly updates showing the remaining kilometers.
Q : Is there a maximum limit on how many kilometers I can ride per month?
A : There is no upper limit on monthly riding distance.
Q : If I do not use the bike for a month, do I still need to pay the battery EMI?
A : Yes. The battery EMI is payable every month, irrespective of usage.
Q : What happens if the battery is damaged?
A : If the battery is within the 5-year warranty period, repairs will be carried out as per warranty or insurance terms and conditions.
Q : What happens if I ride 1,00,000 km within the loan tenure?
A : If you reach 1,00,000 km, the battery loan will be considered fully paid and ownership will transfer to you. However, any usage beyond 1,00,000 km will not be covered under warranty.
Q : What are the benefits of Battery Flex compared to an ICE vehicle?
A : Upfront costs are lower than most ICE vehicles, and the per-kilometer running cost is approximately 50% lower.
Q : Can I exit the program or choose my own financier?
A : You may exit by paying the remaining principal. Currently, the program is available only through Ecofy financing partners.
Q : Can I transfer the plan if I sell my bike?
A : The battery loan must be fully cleared before ownership of the bike can be transferred.
