TVS Motor Strengthens EV Portfolio: Orbiter V1 Launched at ₹49,999 with Flexible BaaS Model

TVS Motor Company (TVSM) has officially expanded its electric vehicle lineup with the launch of the TVS Orbiter V1. Featuring a 1.8 kWh battery, it is now the most accessible electric scooter in the company’s portfolio. Alongside this launch, TVS has introduced Battery As A Service (BaaS) across its entire EV range, including the iQube series.

The Orbiter V1: Smart & Sustainable Urban Commute

The TVS Orbiter V1 is designed for the modern Indian commuter who seeks a balance between aesthetics and functionality.

  • Performance: Powered by a 1.8 kWh battery, it delivers a certified IDC range of 86 km.

  • Quick Charging: Supports 0–80% charging in just 2 hours and 20 minutes.

  • Practical Design: Features a best in class 34-litre under-seat storage (fits two helmets), an 845 mm long flat seat, and a 290 mm straight line footboard for maximum legroom.

  • Advanced Tech: Comes with a coloured LCD cluster, turn-by-turn navigation, and proactive safety alerts (crash, fall, and anti-theft).

BaaS: Revolutionizing EV Ownership

The introduction of the BaaS model is a strategic shift to make EVs more affordable by separating the vehicle cost from the battery cost.

  • Entry Price: Starts at ₹49,999 (ex showroom Delhi, inclusive of PM e-Drive).

  • Subscription Plans: Flexible monthly payments starting at ₹862/month.

  • Peace of Mind: Includes an extended warranty of up to 5 years or 70,000 km and unlimited monthly usage during the tenure.

  • Non-BaaS Price: For customers preferring full upfront ownership, the Orbiter V1 is priced at ₹84,500.

Official Quotes

"The launch of TVS Orbiter V1 further strengthens this lineup by introducing the most accessible entry point into our electric scooter range," said Gaurav Gupta, President  India 2W Business, TVS Motor Company.

Aniruddha Haldar, Senior Vice President, added, "The TVS Orbiter V2 launched last year was very well received. The introduction of TVS Orbiter V1 reflects customer insights, bringing a more accessible option for everyday urban commuting."

👉 Important Note for iQube Fans

TVS has confirmed that the Battery As A Service (BaaS) model is now available across the entire TVS iQube portfolio. This move is expected to significantly lower the entry barrier for the popular iQube series.

👉 Stay tuned to EVINDIA.online as we bring you more updates on the specific BaaS pricing for all iQube variants!

1. What is the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model?

A. BaaS is a flexible way to own an EV where you pay for the scooter's body upfront and simply subscribe to the battery through a monthly payment plan, rather than buying the whole battery at once.

2. Why should I choose BaaS over a traditional purchase?

A. BaaS makes switching to electric much more affordable by cutting down the initial cost.

 Key perks include:

  • A significantly lower starting price.

  • Built-in extended battery warranty (up to 5 years/70,000 km).

  • Flexible payment options.

  • Unlimited riding with no monthly kilometer restrictions.

3. Is BaaS available for all TVS electric scooters?

A. Yes. TVS has introduced BaaS across its entire electric portfolio. It is currently available for both the Orbiter and the iQube series, making the whole range more accessible.

4. Who is eligible to sign up for BaaS?

A.To qualify, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Hold a valid driving license.

  • Complete a credit assessment and meet the necessary credit requirements.

  • Accept the program's Terms & Conditions.

5. Can I get BaaS anywhere in India?

A. Yes. The Battery-as-a-Service model is being launched nationwide and is open for bookings right now.

6. How exactly does BaaS make the scooter cheaper to start with?

A. By moving the battery cost into a monthly subscription, you reduce the "initial purchase outlay." This lets you start riding with a much smaller down payment.

7. What are the actual savings compared to a regular EV or Petrol scooter?

A. BaaS offers significant cash flow benefits. For a TVS Orbiter V1 (1.8 kWh), a 24-month vehicle loan combined with a 60-month battery plan can save you roughly ₹17,500 over two years compared to a standard EV purchase. Compared to a petrol scooter, those savings can skyrocket to nearly ₹1 Lakh due to lower running costs.

8. Can I get a discount if I don’t want the extended warranty?

A. No. The extended warranty is a mandatory, bundled part of the plan. It ensures your battery is protected for the entire subscription term, giving you peace of mind and ensuring a better resale value later on.

9. Is this just the same cost split into two EMIs?

A. Not exactly. While it splits the payment, the real benefit is the shift from a "capital expense" to an "operating expense." It allows you to clearly see your monthly running costs and enjoy unlimited kilometers and extended warranty protection that you wouldn't get with a standard purchase.

10. Is the TVS battery more expensive than other brands?

A. TVS BaaS is a specialized financial tool. Unlike some competitors, it offers unlimited kilometers (no monthly cap) and provides an extra 2 years/20,000 km of coverage on top of the standard warranty, regardless of which variant or tenure you choose.

11. What are my options for monthly subscriptions?

A. You can choose a tenure that fits your needs, ranging from 12 to 60 months. Monthly rates vary based on the plan; check with your local dealer for specific pricing.

12. Is there a limit on how much I can ride each month?

A. No. The TVS BaaS model comes with unlimited kilometer usage. There is no monthly cap on how far you can travel.

13. Who owns the battery, and what happens when the plan ends?

A. You subscribe to the battery during the chosen term. Once you have completed all your payments for that tenure, the subscription ends, and full ownership of the battery is transferred to you.

14. What if the battery starts underperforming?

A. You are fully covered. The battery is protected by the warranty for the entire duration of your plan (up to 5 years or 70,000 km). TVS will provide all necessary service and support.

15. Will TVS or the bank buy back my scooter at the end of the term?

A.No. Once the term ends, you own the vehicle entirely. All legal documentation (hypothecation closure) will be handed over to you.

16. Can I buy the scooter cash and only subscribe to the battery?

A. Yes. You have the option to pay for the scooter "shell" upfront and keep only the battery on a monthly subscription.

17. Can I change my subscription plan later?

A. No. You select your tenure at the time of purchase, and that plan remains fixed for the duration of the term.

18. Does the subscription model affect the scooter’s speed or performance?

A.Not at all. You get the exact same high-quality battery and the same performance as a non-BaaS model.
