Tesla’s competitor BYD’s EV sales rose by 21% in Q2 2024

Sales of electric vehicles increased by 21% in the second quarter, according to Chinese electric car producer BYD Company.

According to Reuters, BYD sold 4,26,039 EVs between April and June, which is about 12,000 lower than Tesla’s projected deliveries.

According to the report, Tesla is expected to post a 6% decrease in second-quarter deliveries, which would be the company's first quarterly dip as it struggles with strong competition in China and weak demand for its older models.

With 340,211 car deliveries in June 2024, BYD had already announced a rise in passenger vehicle sales.

Sales of new energy vehicles (NEVs) surged to 341,658 units, while sales of battery electric vehicles jumped to 145,179 units.

The article stated that BYD has continued to develop rapidly, but Tesla has halted manufacturing of its Model Y at its Shanghai facility as a result of declining demand.

Impressive improvements were also made by EV companies like Nio Inc., whose Q2 deliveries more than doubled to nearly 57,300 units.

Sales of electric and hybrid vehicles have increased for Chinese EV manufacturers as a result of price reductions and this transition.

China Passenger Automobile Association (CPCA) reports that new energy vehicle sales in May broke monthly records, accounting for 46.7% of all automobile sales in China.
