Telangana to provide 100% exemption on road tax for EVs

The Telangana government declared on Sunday that electric vehicles (EVs) registered and purchased in the state will be completely exempt from road tax and registration fees for the first two years, till December 31, 2026. According to Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, the new EV policy will take effect on Monday, November 18, in accordance with Government Order (GO) 41. The update is to eliminate pollution in Hyderabad, Prabhakar stated.

Electric two-wheelers, four-wheelers, commercial passenger vehicles like taxis, private vehicles, electric three-seater autorickshaws, electric light goods carriers, including electric tractors, three-wheeled goods vehicles, and electric buses will all be completely exempt from road tax and registration fees, according to the GO.

The exemption will be applicable to electric buses for the duration of their operation by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation alone, as well as any industry-owned buses used exclusively for employee transportation and not for commercial purposes that are bought and registered in Telangana for the first two years until December 31, 2026, regardless of the number of vehicles registered, the statement stated.
