The President-elect announced the tariff imposition on the top trading partners of the USA–Mexico, Canada and China on the social media platform Truth Social.&nbsp; Earlier, the Inflation Reduction Act has already introduced various tax credits for EV companies to set up their manufacturing units in the USA. In fact, according to a report by nrdc.org, the USA has already surpassed China as the most favourable country for EV investments. Now, with the tariff hanging over, it will be interesting to note the reactions of the worldwide EV companies.&nbsp; The effect&nbsp; According to research by economists at the Peterson Institute of International Economics, Trump's policies might wind up costing the average American household more than $2,600 a year. Nonetheless, it seems that both Republicans and Democrats support the concept of increasing tariffs.&nbsp; Free market analysts and advocates of globalisation have shown serious concern over Trump’s decision, as the tariff wars between countries may come at a cost of inflation and global slowdown. Amid such volatility, the comparatively nascent market of electric vehicles has also come under threat.&nbsp;Although, as per studies, the USA only accounts for 7-10% contribution to the global supply chain of EVs, the direct repercussions will be faced by the companies who have their manufacturing or assembly units in the USA.&nbsp;&nbsp; Recent reports by Bloomberg have shown that BYD intends to reduce prices to tackle tariffs and not shift the burden on consumers. The step came after Tesla offered a price cut on its Model Y in China. The USA as the third largest EV market in the world accounts for 10% of the overall global market worth, after China accounting for 60% and Europe accounting for 25%. However, in the USA, approximately 70% of the sold EVs are domestically manufactured while $19 billion worth of electric vehicles are imported, according to the USA customs clearance website. Hence, it can be said that after the tariffs, the global EV industry may be affected by at least $19 billion. Moreover, the raw material imported from other countries to manufacture EVs may also add to the losses, taking the number to another higher value.&nbsp; Impact on India&nbsp; India is an import-oriented country whose overall trade remains in deficit, however, India has a trade surplus with the USA. India's dependence on the US market has increased over the last ten years; currently, 18% of India's exports go to the US, up from 10% in 2010–11. India exports a wide range of products to the US, including engineering equipment, electronics, and textiles. The EV companies planning to launch themselves in the US market might have to change their plans. Bhavish Aggarwal, chairman and managing director, of Ola Electric has said, “With our first generation of scooters, we offered customers a truly aspirational electric scooter that kickstarted the EV revolution in the country. With Gen 2, we made our scooters smarter and more accessible by expanding our portfolio with scooters for every Indian across every price range,” a press release by the company reported. He further said, “Today, with Gen 3, we are taking the EV two-wheeler industry to the ‘next level’. Gen 3 is bringing unmatched performance, superior efficiency, and reinventing benchmarks we set for ourselves, which will change the industry all over again,” the release added. The flagship models in the Gen 3 portfolio are the <a href="https://evindia.online/product/ola-s1-pro-plus-gen3-5kwh" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent;">S1 Pro+ 5.3kWh</a> (with 4680 Bharat Cell) and 4kWh, which cost Rs 1,69,999 and Rs 1,54,999, respectively. Porsche has finally made its debut in the Indian EV industry by launching its all-electric Taycan, which will be available at prices starting from Rs 1.50 cr (ex-showroom). The vehicle will be available in two body designs: the Taycan sedan and the Taycan Cross Turismo estate. The Tycan Sedan will be available in standard, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S variants, while the Taycan Cross Turismo estate will only be available in 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S.&nbsp; Porsche's first all-electric vehicle, the Taycan, is based on the same platform as sister manufacturer Audi's newly introduced e-tron GT in the nation. Similar to the brand's Panamera, the Taycan is a four-door coupe with a design that follows the 2015 Mission E concept. A full-width lightbar at the back and headlamps with four LED DRL elements are two examples of the Taycan's recognisable Porsche design traits. Ampere Launches Magnus Neo: Sets to travel from Bengaluru to Global Expo at Delhi

The Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 is all set to begin on January 17 in Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event will stage the head-to-head competitive launch of electric SUVs — the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and the Hyundai Creta Electric. The Creta Electric will be the Hyundai's first mass-market EV in India while Maruti Suzuki will make its debut in the Indian EV market with the e-Vitara. The premiere of these two electric SUVs at the event has been confirmed by both automakers. Hyundai has revealed that there will be two battery pack options available for the Creta Electric: a 42 kWh and a 51.4 kWh model. The 51.4 kWh battery has a range of 473 km, while the 42 kWh battery has a range of 390 km, according to ARAI. The Crerta Electric will come in five versions including Executive, Smart, Smart (O), Premium, and Excellence.&nbsp;According to Hyundai, the vehicle takes just 7.9 seconds for the 51.4 kWh model to accelerate from 0 to 10 kmph. In terms of charging, the Creta EV, while using a DC fast charger, can get charged from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in only 58 minutes. Meanwhile, using an 11 kW AC home charger can charge the vehicle from 10 per cent to 100 per cent in 4 hours. The e-Vitara will have three powertrain options: a 49 kWh, 61 kWh front-wheel-drive (2WD), and 61 kWh four-wheel-drive (4WD), according to information Suzuki has disclosed for the global market. The 49 kWh version generates 142 horsepower, and the 61 kWh 2WD and 49 kWh versions both provide 189 Nm of torque. With 172 horsepower from the front motor and 64 horsepower from the rear motor, the 61 kWh 4WD variant produces 181 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque overall. Hyundai has announced that the Creta Electric's infotainment system and instrument dashboard will both have 10.25-inch dual displays. If achieved, the new technology can solve the “range anxiety,” a major hurdle in EV adoption.&nbsp;&nbsp; Honda announced a demonstration production line in November for its future solid-state batteries, which the Japanese manufacturer intends to incorporate into its EVs on a mass market basis in the second half of the decade. President and representative director of Honda R&amp;D, Keiji Otsu, said in a statement, "The all-solid-state battery is an innovative technology that will be a game changer in this EV era. Replacing engines that have been supporting the advancements of automobiles to date, batteries will be the key factor of electrification," Live Science reported. Compared to the liquid lithium-ion batteries featured in modern EVs, these solid-state batteries are anticipated to be 25% less expensive to build, 50% smaller, and 35% lighter. However, Honda's solid-state cells are too small to be utilised in any of the company's current vehicle models, which is the main obstacle to the technology. In conventional solid polymer electrolyte battery packs, lithium-ion creates tiny tree-like structures called dendrites when the battery is being charged and discharged. These dendrites can weaken a battery's internal connections, greatly raising the possibility of explosions and fires. For lithium battery packs to reach their full potential, this risk factor has proven crucial. The innovative triple-layer electrolyte engineering of the new battery is intended to improve performance and structural and thermal safety, according to DGIST. This battery features a solid central layer that enhances the battery's structural integrity and guards against thermal issues like fire, while the soft outside layers guarantee optimal contact with the electrodes. Decabromodiphenyl ethane, a fire suppressant, is present in high concentrations together with zeolite and lithium salt. The total strength of the battery pack is said to be strengthened by this. Additionally, the DGIST asserts that this battery pack retains a sizable amount of power even after numerous charging cycles, in addition to improving fire safety. The battery is said to retrain 87.9% of its power after 1,000 cycles of charging and draining. But that did not happen even though the cap on the number of vehicles to get the benefit has not been reached. The gains accrued so far stand to get derailed if the matter is not resolved quickly,” citing one official ET report. According to the report, industry leaders stated that the development has resulted in a dramatic increase in pricing and a "drastic" impact on sales. "The cost of owning an electric vehicle has unexpectedly increased by 10%. These vehicles cost more than their petrol or diesel counterparts. This sudden surge in purchasing price has seriously impacted sales of electric two- and four-wheelers," ET further stated.&nbsp; The administration also stated that registrations in September had been "almost negligible".&nbsp; Industry stakeholders intend to meet with state transportation officials next week to express their concerns and seek a resolution. The new policy blow comes as EV two-wheeler sales have been swinging like a pendulum thus far in 2024. While registrations decreased 18% month on month (MoM) in August, they increased 34% MoM in July. In April, monthly sales fell by 50%.&nbsp;

With a Rs 22,000 crore investment, the project is anticipated to provide jobs for around 50,000 people,” according to Siddaramaiah. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar met Young Liu, Chairman of the Taiwan-headquartered Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) on Aug 16th.
