Tata Motors Smashes EV Sales Record in August 2025 – Harrier EV Leads the Charge!
Tata Motors has set a new benchmark in India’s electric car market with its best-ever monthly EV sales, crossing 8,500 units in August 2025. The Harrier EV, Punch EV, and Nexon EV have fueled this surge, helping Tata regain momentum in the fast-growing EV race.
Tata Motors Hits New EV Sales Peak
Tata Motors has reported its highest-ever monthly electric vehicle sales in August 2025, dispatching 8,540 units, a massive 44% YoY growth compared to 5,935 units in August 2024.
This performance also marks the second consecutive month of record-breaking EV numbers, following 7,124 units sold in July 2025. With this momentum, Tata has taken its January–August EV sales to 47,831 units, covering nearly 70% of CY2024’s total annual EV sales (68,980 units).
Harrier EV Steals the Spotlight
The star of this surge is the newly launched Harrier EV, priced at ₹21.49 lakh (ex-showroom). Built on the Acti.ev Gen 2 platform, it is India’s first AWD mass-market electric SUV, boasting a 600+ km range on a single charge.
The Harrier EV has not only expanded Tata’s EV portfolio but also attracted traditional SUV buyers who previously preferred diesel and petrol models.
Alongside the Harrier, the Punch EV and Nexon EV continue to drive strong demand, while the Curvv EV has added fresh momentum to Tata’s lineup.
Market Share & Competition Heat Up
Despite hitting record numbers, Tata faces tough competition from Mahindra & MG Motor India, who together now command 48% of the retail EV market. Tata’s retail market share in August stood at 41%, down from 65% a year ago, but retail volumes grew 68% YoY, proving demand remains robust.
To regain its leadership, Tata is planning a ₹35,000 crore EV investment strategy. The roadmap includes:
-
Urban compact EVs for city buyers
-
Midsize family EVs for mass adoption
-
Lifestyle electric SUVs for aspirational customers
-
