In fact, according to a report by nrdc.org, the USA has already surpassed China as the most favourable country for EV investments. Now, with the tariff hanging over, it will be interesting to note the reactions of the worldwide EV companies.&nbsp; The effect&nbsp; According to research by economists at the Peterson Institute of International Economics, Trump's policies might wind up costing the average American household more than $2,600 a year. Nonetheless, it seems that both Republicans and Democrats support the concept of increasing tariffs.&nbsp; Free market analysts and advocates of globalisation have shown serious concern over Trump’s decision, as the tariff wars between countries may come at a cost of inflation and global slowdown. Once an advocate of free trade, the USA seems to shift its policy towards protectionist ideas, risking a global slowdown, amid the broken dispute resolution mechanism of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The USA as the third largest EV market in the world accounts for 10% of the overall global market worth, after China accounting for 60% and Europe accounting for 25%. However, in the USA, approximately 70% of the sold EVs are domestically manufactured while $19 billion worth of electric vehicles are imported, according to the USA customs clearance website. Hence, it can be said that after the tariffs, the global EV industry may be affected by at least $19 billion. Moreover, the raw material imported from other countries to manufacture EVs may also add to the losses, taking the number to another higher value.&nbsp; Impact on India&nbsp; India is an import-oriented country whose overall trade remains in deficit, however, India has a trade surplus with the USA. That said, if the inflation in the US market rises, the demand in the market will reduce, ultimately leading to a loss of a considerable amount of India’s foreign exchange. It is also interesting to note that in Trump 1.0, India has already lost its Generalised System of Preference (GSP) status which obliged a developed nation to buy certain products from a developing country. However, as per SBI, there has been a significant rise in the trade of India with the USA despite revoking the GSP status which is a good sign for the overall Indian market.&nbsp; With bilateral trade over $120 billion in FY24, the US continues to be India's largest trading partner, marginally surpassing India's trade with China. India's dependence on the US market has increased over the last ten years; currently, 18% of India's exports go to the US, up from 10% in 2010–11. India exports a wide range of products to the US, including engineering equipment, electronics, and textiles. The EV companies planning to launch themselves in the US market might have to change their plans. On the other hand, the earlier cut in the fed rates by the USA might indicate a good time for EV companies to go global. Recently, Suzuki Motor Corporation revealed the eVitara, a worldwide model made in India for the globe, in Milan, Italy. "With decades of automotive expertise, we have combined advanced electric technology with a customer-first approach to delivering something truly transformative," Maruti Suzuki Citing Partho Banerjee, India Senior Executive Officer, Marketing &amp; Sales, PTI reported.&nbsp; He further noted that the firm has long held the view that to encourage EV adoption, it must establish a comprehensive ecosystem that makes the process of owning a battery electric vehicle easier for consumers. Banerjee further said, "A critical barrier to the adoption of EVs is the lack of accessible charging. It's an interesting transition that we are doing.” This might be related to the fact that several of the formerly reluctant manufacturers are now adjusting and have become top suppliers of EV components to major automakers worldwide. In contrast, past discussions within the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) were dominated by worries about decreased business opportunities and job losses. EV sales in India are still small in comparison to the conventional vehicle market, despite the change in attitude. India produced about 100,000 electric cars and 900,000 electric two-wheelers last year, but these were far less than the 20 million two-wheelers and 5 million internal combustion engine (ICE)-powered vehicles. ICE vehicles will continue to dominate the industry, holding 70% of the market, as the government aims for a 30% EV adoption rate by 2030. Mehta claims that the auto parts industry will be "much bigger than what it is today" and highlights that there is plenty of room for both EVs and conventional vehicles in the growing automotive market. Mehta, however, cited a "chicken and egg" scenario in which low manufacturing volumes make indigenisation efforts more expensive and did not commit to precise targets for the localisation of EV components. He contends that while the market expands, localisation initiatives are still getting established. The larger localisation effort by ACMA has been going on for a number of years. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) and ACMA set targets a few years ago to localise 3% of auto component imports in the next two to three years and another 10-15% over the next five.&nbsp; By 2022, ACMA had already exceeded the original goal, saving Rs 7,000 crore in foreign cash by localising 6% of the imported components valued at Rs 120,000 crore. Mehta contends that localisation is essential for protecting against the rupee's depreciation, which causes it to lose 5–7% of its value every year. Currently, component manufacturers export about 30% of their manufacturing, while the average localisation percentage in India's automobile industry is around 70%. The next phase of India's automotive industry will be defined by striking a balance between domestic and international market demands as the industry continues to shift towards EVs.

Automobile OEMs are no longer fearful of EV transition

With Delhi leading the path of EV penetration, the adoption of electric vehicles in India is booming, a report by FICCI and Yes Bank showed.&nbsp; According to the report, Delhi's adoption of EVs across a number of segments has led to an EV penetration rate of 11.5%. Kerala, where the use of electric two-wheelers (e2Ws) and three-wheelers (e3Ws) has been substantial, comes in second at 11.1%, followed by Assam at 10.0%. Furthermore, from FY21 to FY24, Gujarat, Odisha, Kerala, and Punjab had the highest compound annual growth rates (CAGR) in EV sales, highlighting the significance of states working together and exchanging effective tactics. More than half of the EV volumes in FY24 came from the top five states, according to the data, and the distribution of EV sales has improved over the previous four years. As India works to meet its net-zero targets, it underlined how important states are to the country's EV transition. The report urged a doubling of the current EV penetration rate to meet national targets by 2030. It called for states to renew their EV policies until 2030, emphasizing the need to mandate EV adoption in public transport and fleet operations. With practical suggestions to improve ZEV adoption nationwide, the research offered a road map for bridging the gap between aspiration and implementation. The final guidelines of the new PM E-Drive scheme to distribute Rs 2,000 crore incentives for establishing public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations are scheduled to be released within a month, citing Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Hanif Qureshi, the Indian Express reported on Tuesday.&nbsp; To boost the local manufacturing capacity of electric vehicles, the ministry will ensure the effective implementation of the scheme by publishing detailed guidelines. The guidelines were notified in late March this year and are designed to welcome investments from EV manufacturers worldwide, Qureshi highlighted while speaking at an event of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce &amp; Industry (FICCI)&nbsp; The PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) scheme, with an outlay of Rs 10,900 crore was notified in Sept for the upcoming 2 years. The scheme dedicated Rs 2,000 crore for charging infrastructure which is two times more than the precious FAME-2 scheme. According to Qureshi, the ministry has developed draft guidelines on how to distribute the entire amount of incentives and conducted several stakeholder engagements. The ministry is currently expecting state governments' responses to the draft guidelines that have been distributed to them. Qureshi said, “Basically, there will be committees formed in each state at the level of the Chief Secretary where the demand for chargers in the state will be aggregated. Each state will also be sending a proposal to the Ministry of Heavy Industries, and then both will be sanctioned,” the Indian Express Reported.&nbsp; Qureshi went on to say that incentives will be given out based on factors like the quantity of EVs in a city and the volume of traffic on the roadways.&nbsp;"Whether or not a state has an EV policy and whether or not it has some of its own incentives will determine our priorities. Because we might get proposals worth more than Rs 2,000 crore," Qureshi stated. The upcoming guidelines are expected to dedicate some of their incentives for upstream infrastructure developed by financially challenged electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) Qureshi further stated that within three to four weeks, the comprehensive rules for the March-noticed Scheme to Promote Manufacturing of Electric Passenger Cars in India (SPMEPCI) will be released.&nbsp;Under the scheme, if a company agrees to invest $500 million in establishing a local factory, the import duties on automobile models costing more than $35,000 will be reduced from 100% to 15%.

The company's upcoming EV fleet will include the Harrier EV, the Avinya EV, and the Tata Sierra EV. Reportedly, the Sierra EV, a.k.a. “Desi Defender,” is one of the most anticipated EV models in the Indian market.&nbsp; The Sierra EV is expected to be an adaptable, all-wheel-drive, five-seater SUV with a comfortable driving experience, making it ideal for families that enjoy travelling together. The Tata Sierra EV is set to launch before March 2026, priced between ₹25 and ₹30 lakh. The Tata Sierra EV was first revealed as a concept at Auto Expo 2020, and it is built on the ALFA platform, which was previously utilised for the Altroz. The measurement of the concept is 4,150mm X 1,820 mm X 1,675mm and features a wheelbase of 2,450mm. Taking a step further to production, a more refined version of the Ev was staged at Auto Expo 2023. The latest version switches from the earlier distinctive four-door configuration to a more practical five-door design. The Sierra EV is anticipated to use Tata's Acti.EV architecture, like the Punch EV and the future Harrier EV, is expected to be based on Tata's Gen2 EV platform. The Sierra EV's design is expected to feature certain famous design characteristics from the original Sierra from the 1990s. The signature design of curved rear-side windows, squarish wheel arches, and high-set bonnet are all likely to be reflected in the production. The vehicle’s front will have a slim LED strip running the length of its width, giving it a clean, modern appearance, while the back will have an LED brake light strip. The wheels may have a tinge of chrome, creating a sense of elegance, and the door handles may be futuristic in design, adding to the overall attractiveness.

Zero Motorcycles, an electric vehicle partner of Hero Motocorp, is developing a new electric motorbike which seems to be a mini bike designed for urban markets, according to a report by Bikewale. According to the report, the leaked patent photos indicate that the bike's overall dimensions seem similar to the Honda Grom, a tiny motorbike recognised for its size and urban placement. The update seems indicative of the American EV manufacturer’s intention to enter into the low-cost electric vehicles segment.&nbsp; The patents indicate that the corporation intends to add detachable batteries to the vehicle. The motorbike will be one of its first kind, as currently, all Zero e-bikes have fixed batteries,For urban bikes, replaceable batteries make sense since the user can charge them in several locations if the riding range runs out. There are no specifics about the bike's specifications or features yet. However, as the launch date approaches, the company is expected to release additional details.&nbsp; Based on the vehicle's size, the report, taking precedent of the Honda Navi as a failure in the market, assumes that the Hero’s new electric motorbike is unlikely to be imported into India.

Commercial electric vehicle Orignal Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Euler Motors on Tuesday officially inaugurated its manufacturing and R&amp;D centre in Palwal, Haryana. With an investment of Rs 100 Cr, the newly opened facility is reported to be set up to meet the rising demand in the Industry&nbsp; In particular, to meet the growing demand for its three-wheelers, Euler Motors plans to utilise its 5 lakh square foot factory, which can produce 36,000 vehicles annually, as its national production base. With its current footprint of 26 locations, Euler Motors wants to grow to 40 cities by FY25. "The production of commercial three-wheeler EVs has advanced significantly with the opening of our new facility. This facility will enhance our production capacity and help us deliver locally manufactured vehicles that meet the evolving needs of our customers and the industry," Gaurav Kumar, the head of supply chain and manufacturing at Euler Motors said. According to the firm, the new factory features an automated assembly line connected by a unique manufacturing execution system (MES) that tracks the lifetime of the vehicle from manufacture to delivery to drive production efficiency. Moreover, the facility will open up job prospects in the area and will provide its personnel with the necessary skills through a dedicated learning and development centre. It also mentioned that out of the 500 individuals it already employs, 20% are women.&nbsp; Kumar emphasized that the new update will help the company achieve its goal of 15% growth in the next fiscal year. Citing Kumar PTI reported, “This facility will help us respond to the increased customer demand and adapt to changes in processes and products with agility and flexibility”.&nbsp;

This has inspired us to introduce the ‘Scoobike’ with high-end features, to offer our customers the safest and most comfortable ride possible. We aim to provide the latest and safest technology, whether in terms of batteries or feature enhancements,” HT Auto quoted Dr. Anshul Gupta, MD, Okaya Electric Vehicles, as saying. Motofaast has been offered a price of ₹136,999 (ex-showroom) by the company. Additionally, reservations are now being accepted for a nominal fee of ₹2500. Meanwhile, deliveries will start the following month, with Jaipur and Delhi first. Rechargeable The EV's dual battery system, which has a total 3.53 kWh capacity, was installed by the manufacturer. The battery pack, which employs lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, requires 4-5 hours to fully charge the model. Okaya states that the e-scooter can go between 110 and 130 kilometers at a maximum speed of 70 kmph. There are three riding modes available as well: Eco, City, and Sports. In terms of features, Motofaast boasts a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with 3 GB of RAM and a 2 GHz processor. It also includes car statistics, GPS navigation, and support for the Okaya EV application. Colors: Black, Cyan, Matt Green, Red, Rusty White, Silver, and White are the seven color possibilities available.

The UT administration has chosen to evaluate the EV Policy in light of the policy's clause that states that registration of non-electric <a href="https://evindia.online/scooter" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="background-color: transparent; color: rgb(17, 85, 204);">two-wheelers</a> would cease if the goal of 6,202 is reached in the fiscal year 2023–2024. The objective will likely be met by the first week of July as 5,500 of these two-wheelers have already been registered as of June 28. After that, no further registrations would be accepted until March 31, 2024. The registration of non-electric <a href="https://evindia.online/vehicles?type=3" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="background-color: transparent; color: rgb(17, 85, 204);">four-wheelers</a> will also end when the goal of 22,626 is reached for the current fiscal year, which is anticipated to happen in December. Officials were given the task of compiling an analytical report on the execution of the policy during a recent meeting of the governing body of the Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society (CREST), the nodal organisation in charge of doing so in the city. A senior official stated, "We will weigh the policy's benefits and drawbacks during the scheduled meeting on Monday, and a decision will be made accordingly." The administration hopes to register a minimum of 35% electric two-wheelers in 2022–2023, 70% in 2023–2024, and 100% by 2024–2025 as part of a progressive phase-out strategy for two- and three-wheelers powered by internal combustion engines (ICE). Anup Gupta, the mayor, had called the EV policy "anti-citizen" on June 23 and ordered the government one month to make the required adjustments. If changes were not made, he had stated that he would join the protests of the populace. The UT Mobility Department has already stopped accepting registrations for non-electric school/college, tour and factory buses until September 30 in an effort to promote green mobility. The decision to limit the sale of non-electric automobiles in the city has raised worries from the Federation of the Chandigarh Region Automobile Dealers' Association that it will have a detrimental effect on the regional economy. There are several businesses in the area that produce non-electric automobiles, engines, and associated parts, making the automotive sector substantial employment in the area. The group expressed concern that restricting the sale of non-electric vehicles may lead to the loss of jobs and financial hardship for neighbourhood businesses.

Manufacturers of electric scooters who have been found guilty of fraudulently claiming subsidies under the FAME II scheme are going to face punishment from the Indian government. The government is reportedly considering a number of penalties, including forbidding these businesses from obtaining subsidies in the future and halting the subsidy on automobiles sold during the previous 15 months. According to reports, the Ministry of Heavy Industries will consult with other government agencies before deciding on the fines since they would affect investments. In order to collect roughly Rs 500 crore, the government previously served warnings to seven <a href="www.evindia.online" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent;">EV</a> manufacturers, including Hero Electric, Okinawa Autotech, Ampere EV, Revolt Motors, Benling India, Lohia Auto, and AMO Mobility. The centre has also stopped paying subsidies totalling Rs 1,400 crore to 13 businesses that the ARAI was looking into. Companies that have been found to be innocent should start receiving subsidies by the end of this month. A government official claims that Rs 200 crore has already been paid and that the remaining claims would be resolved by the end of the month.
