Uttar Pradesh, in a new record, has registered 70,770 electric vehicle registrations in the first quarter of 2025-26, Hindustan Times reported.

Despite concerns about inadequate infrastructure and policy enforcement, the state registered more than 21,000 electric two- and four-wheelers, resulting in ₹255.50 crore in tax and fee exemptions.

The state continues to lead the nation in EV adoption, but the transport department's first-quarter performance report also reveals income growth and an increase in digital transactions. However, concerns about enforcement, the sustainability of subsidies, and service delivery gaps still exist.

According to the HT, the department reports that the quarter's total revenue was ₹2,913.78 crore, a 10.39% rise from the previous year. The ₹14,000 crore annual aim may be attainable given that this represents 85.9% of the quarterly target. Despite significant EV tax breaks and interruptions from the ongoing transfer season, revenue in June alone was ₹830.15 crore, up 4.1% from June 2024.

Citing transport commissioner VN Singh, HT reported, &ldquo;The sharp rise in EV registrations is no longer driven only by low-end e-rickshaws. In this quarter alone, 5,658 electric cars and 15,434 electric two-wheelers were registered, signalling a growing preference for cleaner vehicles even among mid-segment consumers.&rdquo; According to him, the state of Uttar Pradesh is on track to become the largest EV base in India, with a total of 12.29 lakh EVs registered.

However, the establishment of infrastructure, particularly charging stations and e-rickshaw regulations, has not kept up with the speed of development.

The period saw a total of 1.17 lakh new transport vehicles and 9.67 lakh non-transport vehicles registered, representing growth of 16.04% and 12.41%, respectively. The number of e-cart registrations increased by 80.26%. Although economic activity and aspirational mobility are reflected in these figures, they also raise concerns about enforcement, particularly in peri-urban and rural areas where overloading and permission violations are rarely monitored, the report added.

According to the HT, more than 90% of the money was collected online, with e-challans and summonses accounting for ₹30.45 crore and driving license services for ₹84.50 crore. The agency praises this as evidence of increasing digital trust, but complaints about poor service delivery, a lack of assistance for rural users, and delays in grievance resolution continue.

After receiving an overwhelming 10,000 bookings on the first day of its launch, Tata Motors has decided to start the manufacturing of the Harrier.ev e-SUV at its manufacturing facility in Pune.&nbsp; The company has announced that the deliveries of the Harier.ev, priced between ₹21.49 lakh and ₹30.23 lakh, are scheduled to begin in July 2025.

The company updated the audience on (formerly Twitter), stating,&nbsp; "It's no longer just coming soon. It's being made. Production of India's most powerful homegrown SUV has begun. Harrier.ev is now in motion to Delete &mdash; Impossible."
 
The <a href="http://harrier.ev">Harrier.ev</a> comes in five variants in two drive configurations, including Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) and Rear Wheel Drive (RWD). Users can opt for the ride among four colour options: Pristine White, Nainital Nocturne, Pure Grey and Empowered Oxide. The lineup also includes a unique STEALTH Edition with a matte black exterior and black interior.
 
Featuring a dual-motor QWD setup, the e-SUV is built on Tata's acti.ev+ architecture. With 158 PS (116 kW) up front and 238 PS (175 kW) at the rear, the top-end Quad Wheel Drive model generates 313 horsepower and 504 Nm of torque. In addition, Tata claims that the SUV is the fastest in its class, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under 6.3 seconds.
 
Available in two variants, the Harrier.ev offers a 65kWh model with a 538 km range and a 75kWh version that delivers an MIDC-certified range of 627 km. Meanwhile, the C75 variant offers an estimated range between 480 km and 505 km.
 
The Harrier.ev supports fast charging with 120 kW DC fast charging capability, which adds 250 km of range in just 15 minutes. For home charging, the 7.2 kW AC charger enables a full charge in approximately 10.7 hours. Tata Motors is offering a lifetime warranty on the battery pack for the first private individual owner.

To expand the city&rsquo;s EV charging infrastructure, the Nashik Civic administration has established seven electric vehicle charging stations and plans to set up three more in the coming week, Times of India reported.
Planned to establish at different locations, the Civic administration intends to channelise Rs 10 crore from the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) to operationalise 20 electric vehicle charging stations in total.&nbsp;
A private company based in Delhi was appointed to set up these stations. Up till now, 7 stations have been established in the areas of Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, Pramod Mahajan Garden, Ambad Link Road, Satpur fire station, Krishi Nagar jogging track, Satpur divisional office and Mahatma Nagar cricket ground.
Citing civic officials, the report stated that three more EV charging stations will be set up at Ganeshwadi vegetable market, Amrutdham fire station in Panchavati, and B.D. Bhalekar ground. These charging points will be operational within a week and will utilise electricity from the state power utility, MSEDCL.
In addition, the TOI reported, the remaining 10 EV charging stations will be established at five divisional offices of NMC&ndash; Panchavati, Nashik Road, Nashik East and Nashik West.
 Citing an official, TOI reported, "Besides, the EV charging stations are to be set up at Tapovan bus depot, Raje Sambhaji Stadium, Bytco Hospital in Nashik Road, Phalke Smarak and open NMC space in Lekha Nagar."&nbsp;
 For EV charging, the government has set a price of Rs 16.60 per unit. According to a senior NMC official, each EV charging station can charge two four-wheelers and six two-wheelers simultaneously.
 Under NCAP, NMC has already received Rs 86 crore in funding, of which Rs 10&ndash;12 crore will go towards installing EV charging stations. This is a component of the efforts to encourage the city's adoption of electric vehicles in order to lessen reliance on gasoline or diesel vehicles. The official further stated that the civic body's policy is to solely purchase electric vehicles for its officials and office-bearers.

According to reports, the Indian auto sector has started a dialogue with the government to make it easy for manufacturers to acquire the rare earth magnets from Beijing. Although the export of rare earth magnets, an essential component in the production of electric vehicles, has not been completely prohibited by the Chinese government, the procedure has been made extremely challenging, leading to lengthy delays and raising concerns about scarcity.
 
To provide an intense magnetic field required for effective and potent electric motors, such as the traction motors, rare earth magnets like neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets are considered essential. Moreover, these magnets also have a significant impact on other EV parts, such as the braking, wiper, and power steering systems. These rare earth magnets are almost exclusively produced in China.
 
According to The Indian Express report,&nbsp; under the new export laws of China, importers are obligated to provide their Chinese suppliers with an undertaking stating that the rare earth magnets they purchase from them would only be utilised in automobiles and not for military or defence purposes.

Citing an official, The Indian Express reported,&nbsp; &ldquo;What&rsquo;s making the process more cumbersome is that the Chinese side is also insisting that local governments issue an endorsement for their importers. In our case, that would be the Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), which will have to endorse each importer separately. A separate authorisation must also be sought from the Chinese Embassy. We are talking to the government about how the process can be made better, because it is clear that the industry would need their help.&rdquo;

Meanwhile, Mint has reported that the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) are scheduled to meet the Commerce Ministry on Monday to discuss the concerns of disruption in the supply of rare earth magnets from China.

The report says that the concern has already been registered with the Prime Minister&rsquo;s Office, pressing for government intervention.&nbsp;

Citing Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint Benzinga Edge reported, "This technology will enable us to triage and resolve physical issues that can not be detected via remote monitoring, demonstrating our commitment to innovations which deliver a reliable charging network." Recently, the business has collaborated with major manufacturers across the world to enhance EV charging solutions. This week, the business announced a collaboration with Daimler Buses to incorporate its telematics and charge management systems into Mercedes-Benz and Setra buses. In July, the firm teamed with Porsche Cars North America to integrate charging services. The cooperation will enhance Porsche customers' access to more than 100,000 chargers across North America.

It further stated, BII and Mahindra Electric have a deal in place for BII to inject Rs 1,925 crore ($250 million) in July 2022 via mandatory convertible preference shares, which would result in a holding of 2.75 to 4.76 per cent, depending on milestones reached. This marks 15 years since their entry into the Tamil Nadu automobile market. These investments will result in the launch of six new vehicle models from the two companies, including two electric vehicles, as announced by Ashwani Gupta, Nissan Global Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Alliance Board. Currently, both Renault and Nissan manufacture four vehicle models at their Chennai plant located in Oragadam, which is about 45 kilometers from the city. Additionally, according to Gupta, the Renault-Nissan manufacturing facility aims to achieve 100% carbon neutrality by 2025 through the utilization of renewable energy sources. The new Investments made by Renault and Nissan will result in the creation of 2,000 new job opportunities at the Renault Nissan Research and Development and Business Center located in Mahindra Research City in Singaperumalkoil. According to Gupta, the company is set to launch six new models, with half being manufactured by Nissan and the other half by Renault. The new vehicles will be built on a shared platform while still retaining each brand’s unique identity. The lineup will consist of four new C-segment SUVs.
