Switch Mobility, the electric commercial vehicle manufacturing arm of the Hinduja Group, has bagged a significant order to supply 650 electric buses to Sai Green Projects Pvt. Ltd. The fleet will be deployed to strengthen urban public transport across two of Maharashtra's largest metropolitan hubs: Mumbai and Pune.

The agreement marks a major milestone under the Indian government’s PM E-Drive Phase II scheme, facilitated through CESL (Convergence Energy Services Limited) tenders where Sai Green Projects has been selected as the official transport operator.

Key Highlights of the Deal

  • Total Volume: 650 electric buses

  • Vehicle Type: 9-metre electric buses (AC and Non-AC configurations)

  • Operating Fleets:

    • Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) in Mumbai (AC variants)

    • Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) in Pune (Non-AC variants)

  • Backed Scheme: Government of India's PM E-Drive Phase II initiative via CESL tender.

A Major Leap for Green Public Mobility in Maharashtra

Under the terms of the contract, Switch Mobility will deliver advanced 9-metre electric buses designed to modernize urban commuting, reduce carbon emissions, and lower operating costs for transit authorities.

Ganesh Mani, CEO, Switch Mobility, highlighted the strategic importance of the rollout:

"The deployment of 650 electric buses is a significant step towards India's ambition to reduce emissions, improve operating economics, and modernize public transport systems. At Switch Mobility, we remain focused on delivering reliable and efficient electric mobility solutions that enable operators to transition towards cleaner public transport while ensuring a superior passenger experience."

Echoing a similar sentiment, RG Venkataraman, Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of Switch Mobility, added that the milestone validates the company’s ability to execute at scale and make sustainable commercial fleets financially viable for operators.

Strengthening Operator Collaboration

Sai Green Projects, which secured the operator rights under the CESL tender, views the partnership as a catalyst for future-ready urban infrastructure. Vikas Gupta, CEO, Sai Green Projects Pvt. Ltd., stated:

"Sustainable living is at the core of what we do at Sai Green Projects. We are proud to partner with a leading OEM like Switch Mobility to take India's vision for clean, efficient, and future-ready public mobility forward. We are confident that these electric buses will enhance the everyday experience of commuters in Mumbai and Pune."

Switch Mobility’s Growing Footprint in India

This latest order bolsters Switch Mobility’s robust standing in India’s rapidly evolving electric bus market. To date, the company has successfully deployed over 2,500 electric buses across Indian roads, with its global fleet collectively logging more than 185 million green kilometres. Alongside its zero-emission bus lineup, Switch continues to scale its presence in the light commercial vehicle segment through its expanding SWITCH IeV series.
