Skoda plans to launch mass-market affordable EV in India: All you need to know

Following the revelation of Enyaq and Elroq EVs to be introduced next year, Skoda is all set to unveil its affordable electric car in the Indian market by 2027.

Skoda Auto India is planning to launch a fleet of new electric vehicles including the all-new Kylaq compact SUV which will cost Rs. 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The Czech automaker will start rolling out its EV offerings after the introduction of Enyaq EV and Elroq EV.

The next low-cost EV is expected to arrive in India after 2027, according to media reports. Additionally, citing sources, Gaadiwaadi reported that the electric vehicle will be manufactured in Skoda's Aurangabad site and look like Kushaq's design.

Moreover, to maintain competitive pricing, the low-cost EV is anticipated to be highly localised. Skoda thinks that a low sticker price is achieved by producing EVs locally. Any business that wants to start producing EVs and associated parts locally must find a market with high volume and enough sales to cover the first investment.

The Enyaq and Elroq EVs will be Skoda's first foray into the Indian EV market, however, Indian markets are yet to see locally-made, reasonably-priced EVs. Both electric vehicles will be marketed in the nation through the CBU at first, but depending on demand, local assembly may be adopted later. At the 2024 Bharat Mobility Global Expo, the Enyaq made its debut in India. Conversely, the Elroq little electric SUV just debuted all over the world.

The 4.1-meter-long electric vehicle will be powered by a base-level variant of the brand's born-electric MEB platform, which was created especially for EVs with front-wheel drive. There are rumours that the Czech automaker may introduce an affordable Epiq EV to India, but nothing has been verified as of yet.
