SKODA expected to launch pocket-friendly EV in India: All you need to know
A cost-effective
electric vehicle (EV)
with a starting price of between Rs. 12.5 lakh and Rs. 16.6 lakh (ex-showroom) is about to be released in India by the Czech carmaker SKODA. The business wants to compete with current models like the Tata Nexon.ev, Mahindra XUV400, and the future Citroen eC3 Aircross while riding the wave of EV popularity in the nation. SKODA Auto board member Martin Jahn discussed the company's goals during a gathering in Vietnam, where it recently started doing business. The business is looking at joint ventures and opportunities for regional production.
SKODA is looking at a number of partnerships and localization techniques to produce an inexpensive EV for the Indian market. The MEB platform from Volkswagen might be modified for regional manufacturing; alternatively, a new electric platform could be developed in collaboration with a regional original equipment manufacturer (OEM). Given their prior partnerships on the MEB platform and powertrains, Mahindra may be a prospective partner for the carmaker.
Electrifying current models is being considered
One of SKODA's existing models may be converted into an entry-level EV for India. The top competitors are KUSHAQ and SLAVIA since they both rest on the MQB A0 IN platform. SKODA might save expenses associated with designing and constructing a new model from scratch and increase production effectiveness by electrifying these cars. For the desired pricing range, a single-motor front-wheel-drive setup with a battery capacity of 40 to 45 kWh would be appropriate.
Future goals and anticipated launch date for SKODA
In 2025, SKODA's cheap EV is anticipated to arrive in North America. Prior to that, the business intends to release the ENYAQ EV in the premium segment. The automaker's development ambitions in the ASEAN area include a greater component aimed towards India. The facility at Chakan, India, is crucial in delivering automobiles to Vietnam and other emerging countries. The area will have the KODIAQ, KAROQ, KUSHAQ, SUPERB, SLAVIA, and OCTAVIA as well as the ENYAQ EV in the automaker's lineup.
