Uttar Pradesh, in a new record, has registered 70,770 electric vehicle registrations in the first quarter of 2025-26, Hindustan Times reported.

Despite concerns about inadequate infrastructure and policy enforcement, the state registered more than 21,000 electric two- and four-wheelers, resulting in ₹255.50 crore in tax and fee exemptions.

The state continues to lead the nation in EV adoption, but the transport department's first-quarter performance report also reveals income growth and an increase in digital transactions. However, concerns about enforcement, the sustainability of subsidies, and service delivery gaps still exist.

According to the HT, the department reports that the quarter's total revenue was ₹2,913.78 crore, a 10.39% rise from the previous year. The ₹14,000 crore annual aim may be attainable given that this represents 85.9% of the quarterly target. Despite significant EV tax breaks and interruptions from the ongoing transfer season, revenue in June alone was ₹830.15 crore, up 4.1% from June 2024.

Citing transport commissioner VN Singh, HT reported, &ldquo;The sharp rise in EV registrations is no longer driven only by low-end e-rickshaws. In this quarter alone, 5,658 electric cars and 15,434 electric two-wheelers were registered, signalling a growing preference for cleaner vehicles even among mid-segment consumers.&rdquo; According to him, the state of Uttar Pradesh is on track to become the largest EV base in India, with a total of 12.29 lakh EVs registered.

However, the establishment of infrastructure, particularly charging stations and e-rickshaw regulations, has not kept up with the speed of development.

The period saw a total of 1.17 lakh new transport vehicles and 9.67 lakh non-transport vehicles registered, representing growth of 16.04% and 12.41%, respectively. The number of e-cart registrations increased by 80.26%. Although economic activity and aspirational mobility are reflected in these figures, they also raise concerns about enforcement, particularly in peri-urban and rural areas where overloading and permission violations are rarely monitored, the report added.

According to the HT, more than 90% of the money was collected online, with e-challans and summonses accounting for ₹30.45 crore and driving license services for ₹84.50 crore. The agency praises this as evidence of increasing digital trust, but complaints about poor service delivery, a lack of assistance for rural users, and delays in grievance resolution continue.

After receiving an overwhelming 10,000 bookings on the first day of its launch, Tata Motors has decided to start the manufacturing of the Harrier.ev e-SUV at its manufacturing facility in Pune.&nbsp; The company has announced that the deliveries of the Harier.ev, priced between ₹21.49 lakh and ₹30.23 lakh, are scheduled to begin in July 2025.

The company updated the audience on (formerly Twitter), stating,&nbsp; "It's no longer just coming soon. It's being made. Production of India's most powerful homegrown SUV has begun. Harrier.ev is now in motion to Delete &mdash; Impossible."
 
The <a href="http://harrier.ev">Harrier.ev</a> comes in five variants in two drive configurations, including Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) and Rear Wheel Drive (RWD). Users can opt for the ride among four colour options: Pristine White, Nainital Nocturne, Pure Grey and Empowered Oxide. The lineup also includes a unique STEALTH Edition with a matte black exterior and black interior.
 
Featuring a dual-motor QWD setup, the e-SUV is built on Tata's acti.ev+ architecture. With 158 PS (116 kW) up front and 238 PS (175 kW) at the rear, the top-end Quad Wheel Drive model generates 313 horsepower and 504 Nm of torque. In addition, Tata claims that the SUV is the fastest in its class, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in under 6.3 seconds.
 
Available in two variants, the Harrier.ev offers a 65kWh model with a 538 km range and a 75kWh version that delivers an MIDC-certified range of 627 km. Meanwhile, the C75 variant offers an estimated range between 480 km and 505 km.
 
The Harrier.ev supports fast charging with 120 kW DC fast charging capability, which adds 250 km of range in just 15 minutes. For home charging, the 7.2 kW AC charger enables a full charge in approximately 10.7 hours. Tata Motors is offering a lifetime warranty on the battery pack for the first private individual owner.

The SUV gets a 36.9 cm (14.53-inch) infotainment screen made by Harman using the Neo QLED technology of Samsung. The e-SUV is said to have the first Neo QLED display ever made for use in a car. Moreover, the audio system of the car includes Dolby Atmos compatibility, ten JBL speakers, and JBL audio modes.
 Additional features include a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems, seven airbags, and a 540-degree camera system that provides visibility around and beneath the vehicle. The Harrier.ev also boasts a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.

The vehicle has a 540-degree surround view system, six terrain modes, and Quad Wheel Drive for off-road capability. An Ultra Glide Suspension system with Frequency Dependent Damping improves ride comfort.

Under the order given by Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL), the all-new 240 kW capacity chargers will improve electric mobility at the airport, Servotech Renewable Power System stated.

The statement by Servotech read, "This positions the installation as the first and biggest of its kind EV charging hub for airside EV operations in an Indian airport, enabling fast turnaround times and significantly enhancing the airport's e-transport operational efficiency".

Under the initiative, the charging station will be strategically located within the airport premises to charge electric buses used for passenger transport between terminals and aircraft, and facilitate 24/7 airside EV operations, further contributing to the reduction of the airport's transport carbon emissions.

To ensure smooth operation and energy efficiency, Servotech Renewable will supervise the EV charging station's supply, erection, testing, commissioning, and five-year maintenance as part of this project. The government of India is organising workshops for companies seeking to import premium electric cars at a lower tariff rate, the Economic Times reported. The step is reported to be taken to revive the dropping interest of companies in the Ev import scheme. The workshops are designed to receive feedback and to figure out the reasons behind the limited interest in the scheme, the report added.&nbsp; In the previous year, the government of India introduced a scheme to decrease import tariffs on elective vehicles in order to increase the local production of EVs while increasing imports as well. The move was planned to invite major electric automakers like Tesla to the Indian market. However, the scheme failed to generate the expected enthusiasm in the global market, pushing the government to rethink its strategy.&nbsp; According to the ET, the government intends to hold a workshop later this month for firms interested in the initiative. This will be the second round of discussions; the first took place in April 2024 and included key firms such as Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, BMW, and Mercedes. Firms must create at least 25% domestic value addition (DVA) within three years, increasing to 50% within five years. Approved firms can import electric automobiles at a 15% customs charge on vehicles worth $35,000 or more, as opposed to the standard higher rate. Furthermore, businesses can import up to 8,000 electric vehicles per year at this reduced cost, with unused import permits carried over to the next year.

Total EV (electric vehicle) registrations fell to a 14-month low in August, with month-on-month and year-on-year sales declines, according to a report by the Hindu Businessline. Both electric two- and three-wheelers reported lower volumes than in July. However, electric three-wheelers outsold electric two-wheelers in terms of volume during the previous month, the report further suggested. The total electric vehicle registrations in all categories combined stood at around 1.06 lakh units in August, down by 17%, over 1.28 lakh units in July, according to Vahan statistics. Sales of electric two-wheelers reduced significantly, with registrations dropping to 46,085 units in August, compared to 61,498 in July and 62,646 in August 2023. Electric three-wheelers outsold two-wheelers last month, at 54,861 units, but this was lower than the 59,151 units sold in July and 56,581 units sold in August 2023. Market leader Ola Electric's volume declined to 12,628 units in August from 18,602 in July in the electric two-wheeler sector. TVS Motor remained the second largest seller and sold 9,514 vehicles, down from 11,555 in July 2024. Sales for Bajaj Auto also dropped to 4,899 units in August vs 7,797 in July. While Ather Energy sold 4,278 units against 6,076 units, Hero MotoCorp despatched 4,742 units against 5,060, Greaves Cotton's sales declined to 2,816 units against 3,158 units. In the electric three-wheeler class, Mahindra Electric Mobility dominated the market with over 4,500 units sold in August, down from 6,504 in July. Bajaj Auto followed with 4,030 units, an increase from 3,694 in July. YC Electric Vehicle sold 3,545 units, a tiny decrease from 3,651 units, while Piaggio's sales fell to 1,558 from 1,959 units. TI Clean Mobility, the Murugappa Group's electric car business, sold around 598 units in August, a modest increase from 580 units in July. Electric car registrations fell to 4,755 units in August from 6,855 in July.

According to financial information received by the business intelligence platform Tofler, Ather Energy's losses resulted from a 260 per cent increase in its overall costs during FY23, which reached almost Rs 2,611 crore. Operating costs at Ather increased by 270 per cent to Rs 2,498 crore in FY23. This follows a Reuters story that said <a href="https://evindia.online/company/ola-electric" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="background-color: transparent; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">Ola Electric</a>, a direct rival of Ather, had an FY23 operational loss of Rs 1,119 crore ($136 million) on revenues of Rs 2,740 crore ($335 million). According to a statement from the firm, Ather sold 92,005 <a href="https://evindia.online/scooter" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" style="background-color: transparent; color: rgb(0, 0, 0);">electric scooters</a> in FY23 as opposed to 23,441 units the year before. The firm increased its footprint by opening a second greenfield factory to assemble and test vehicles in the same logistics park as the current plant in Krishnagiri, Tamil Nadu, throughout the year. "With this addition, the established production capacity has grown to 4.2 Lakh vehicles from a previous capacity of 1.2 Lakh vehicles per annum," the statement read. The company wants to expand into Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets and extend its presence in the North, East, and West areas. In order to gain market share, Ather "...aims to increase its network reach through retail partners in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets with a focus on adding more experience centres in new cities," according to the paper. Through a rights offer, Ather Energy received Rs 900 crore in September from its current backers Hero MotoCorp and GIC. The most recent financing is an expansion of the $128 million Series E round, which was announced in May 2022 and was led in May of this year by the Strategic Opportunities Fund (SOF) of National Investment and Infrastructure Fund Ltd., Hero MotoCorp, and other investors. Ather Energy raised Rs 400.6 crore ($50 million) in October 2022, with the help of current investor Caladium Investment.

Citing a government official the report stated, if the money is not refunded, the offending firms will be removed from the programme in the following seven to ten days, and they won't be permitted to take part in the programme again.&nbsp; As per the research, Hero Electric would be required to pay the largest amount—INR 133.48 Cr—while Ampere would be the second-highest—INR 124.91 Cr. Okinawa is responsible for reimbursing subsidies of INR 116.85 Cr.&nbsp; The crackdown follows a Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) inquiry that showed the seven EV producers took advantage of "fiscal incentives under the scheme by violating the norms," according to MHI, which is the nodal organisation for the scheme. According to the Scheme's regulations, incentives were permitted to be used to produce EVs using parts produced in India. However, it was discovered during the inquiry that these seven enterprises had utilised imported parts, an MHI official informed the magazine.&nbsp; The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) was encouraged by Hero Electric, Benling Motors, and Ammo Mobility the previous day to pressure the MHI to settle the issue since the fines might force EV OEMs to declare bankruptcy.
