The Indian luxury SUV segment is bracing for a high tech disruption. Rox Motor, a Chinese electric vehicle startup with significant backing from tech ecosystem players like Xiaomi, has officially patented its flagship Rox 01 SUV (also known as the Adamas) in India.

With a boxy silhouette that mirrors the iconic Land Rover Defender and a revolutionary plug in hybrid powertrain, the Rox 01 aims to solve range anxiety while offering ultra premium luxury.

The Ultimate Range Extender: 1,226 KM on a Single Charge?

The most striking feature of the Rox 01 is its Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) setup. Unlike traditional hybrids, the Rox 01 uses a 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine primarily as a generator to charge the massive 56.01 kWh battery pack.

Measuring nearly 5.3 metres in length with a 3,010 mm wheelbase, the Rox 01 is a massive presence on the road. Its design is unapologetically rugged, featuring:

• Adjustable Air Suspension: Ground clearance ranges from 205mm to a towering 272mm.

The 6 seater variant features "Lounge Seats" in the second row, offering 8 way power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Tech enthusiasts will appreciate the 15.7 inch 3K infotainment screen and an additional 15.6 inch ceiling mounted screen for rear seat entertainment.

The Indian patent filing specifically showcases a roof mounted LiDAR unit. Paired with dual Nvidia Orin-X chips, the Rox 01 is built for Level 2+ Autonomous Driving, providing advanced safety features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistance, and complex obstacle detection.

Rox 01 Price and India Launch Date

While a patent filing confirms intent, Rox Motor has not yet announced a formal launch timeline for India. However, with the rising popularity of luxury hybrids and the entry of JSW MG Motor into the PHEV space, the Rox 01 could arrive as early as late 2026.

Industry experts estimate the Rox 01 price in India to fall between ₹1 Crore and ₹1.25 Crore, positioning it directly against the Land Rover Defender, BMW X7, and Mercedes-Benz GLS.
