Rocklink India Launches Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Plant and Rare Earth Magnet Recycling Facility in Uttar Pradesh

Rocklink India Pvt. Ltd. has announced the establishment of its first integrated recycling facility in Sikandrabad, Uttar Pradesh, marking a major milestone for lithium-ion battery recycling in India, rare earth magnet recycling, and critical minerals recovery. The new battery recycling plant in Uttar Pradesh is designed to support India’s growing EV battery recycling ecosystem and strengthen the domestic circular economy for critical raw materials.

Located in the UPSIDC Industrial Area, the facility offers complete recycling capabilities for lithium-ion battery scrap, rare earth magnets, and metal-bearing industrial waste. With this move, Rocklink India is positioning itself as a key player in battery waste management in India and the broader rare earth recycling facility landscape.

The plant begins with an initial lithium-ion battery recycling capacity of 10,000 tonnes per year and rare earth magnet dismantling and processing capacity of 60 tonnes per month. The company also said its rare earth chloride processing line, with a production capacity of 1,500 tonnes per year, will be completed in Q1 2026 to expand its rare earth processing in India operations.

Commenting on the development, Leonard Alexander Ansorge, Director of Rocklink India Pvt. Ltd., said the facility marks an important step in building advanced infrastructure for critical raw materials, sustainable materials recovery, and circular supply chains in India.

EPR-Registered Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Plant

Rocklink India said its EPR-registered lithium-ion battery recycling plant is designed to process 95 different types of pre- and post-consumer battery scrap materials. The company has completed commissioning of its self-developed lithium-ion recycling technology, called R2, which safely processes EV battery scrap recycling material into valuable components while removing hazardous volatile organic compounds.

The technology supports multiple battery formats, sizes, and cell chemistries, making it suitable for the fast-growing India battery recycling market. Through an encapsulated process and advanced waste gas treatment systems, the plant achieves more than 98 percent recovery efficiency for metals such as aluminium, copper, and iron, while producing high-purity black mass recycling India output for further refining.

This makes the facility especially relevant for companies and stakeholders looking at battery recycling market India opportunities, end-of-life battery recycling, and battery scrap recovery at scale.

Rare Earth Magnet Recycling Ecosystem

The new facility also includes dedicated capabilities for rare earth magnet recycling in India, covering permanent magnet alloys such as NdFeB, SmCo, and AlNiCo. These materials are commonly used in electric motors, generators, and industrial equipment, making them important for EV recycling infrastructure and magnet recycling ecosystem India development.

Rocklink India said semi-automated dismantling lines will process magnet-containing assemblies into homogeneous batches, improving traceability and recycling efficiency. The company is also expanding its Magcycle™ reverse logistics model, which has been implemented in Europe since 2018, to the Indian market.

Through its “Know Your Material (KYM)” approach, supported by in-house laboratory testing and grading systems, Rocklink will analyze elemental composition and surface oxidation to determine the most suitable recycling pathway. Materials not suitable for direct recycling will be processed into rare earth chlorides at the upcoming facility’s processing unit, which operates a 22-metre direct-heated rotary kiln for the safe calcination of metal-bearing industrial waste.

Strengthening India’s Critical Mineral Supply Chain

The launch comes at a time when India is focusing more sharply on critical mineral recycling, critical minerals India, and domestic supply chain resilience. As demand rises for EVs, renewable energy systems, and advanced manufacturing, the need for domestic supply chain for critical minerals has become more urgent.
