Renault sets new performance standard: EV covers 1,008km at 102km/hr in single charge

In a certifying test at UTAC's circuit in Morocco on December 18, Renault's Filante Record 2025 demo car covered 1,008 kilometres on a single charge, setting a new record for electric vehicle efficiency. The car drove at 102 km/h, demonstrating that long-distance EV driving at continuous highway speeds is feasible, as demonstrated by the run's average speed of 102 km/h.

The Filante Record 2025, which weighed 1,000 kg, used an 87 kWh battery, the same capacity as the production Scenic E-Tech Electric, to cover the trip in 9 hours and 52 minutes. Renault reported using just 7.8 kWh of energy every 100 kilometres. Interestingly, at the end of the journey, the car still had 11% of its battery capacity left, which would have allowed it to travel an extra 120 kilometres at speeds higher than 100 km/h.

As per reports, the efficiency was aided by the vehicle’s aerodynamics. The car was put through wind tunnel testing, and its wheel fairings were redesigned to decrease the drag coefficient from 0.40 to 0.30. In addition, the car was also engineered to decrease its air intake.

Additionally, the Filante Record 2025 is a showcase for technology. It has a lot of carbon fibre, 3D-printed aluminium parts, and steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire systems. Ligier was in charge of the motor, chassis, and carbon construction, while Michelin worked with them to design special low-rolling-resistance tyres.

According to Renault, the experiment demonstrates how aerodynamics, lightweight construction, and clever design can greatly increase real-world EV range without requiring larger batteries.
