Polestar equips Google Gemini in its EV lineup
Polestar announced plans to integrate Google Gemini, the next-generation AI voice assistant, into all vehicles from Polestar 2 onwards through a future Google software update. The Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer will showcase the technology at Slush 2025 in Helsinki on November 19-20, offering attendees hands-on demonstrations inside the Polestar 5. Gemini represents an upgrade from the current Google Assistant platform with generative AI capabilities.
The shift to Gemini will roll out across Polestar’s lineup beginning with the Polestar 2 and newer models through an upcoming software update. The cars will come with upgraded AI experience, including Gemini Live’s natural conversation, follow-up queries and brainstorming capabilities. The feature will begin its phased launch in 2026, initially with US English support.
Gemini introduces generative AI functionality that enables more natural conversational interactions compared to traditional voice command systems. The platform supports complex dialogue patterns beyond simple command execution.
Gemini Live activates with the prompt “Hey Google, let’s talk,” enabling a more advanced, conversational in-car assistant. It supports natural back-and-forth dialogue, aids with brainstorming while driving, offers access to learning resources on the move and delivers improved query understanding and responses. According to Sid Odedra, Polestar’s Head of UI/UX, the integration marks a significant step forward in the brand’s digital experience, advancing AI-driven voice interaction within the automotive environment.
