Ola plans to launch electric car, registers design patent

Ola Electric Mobility is planning to manufacture another electric car, as the company has registered its design at the patent office. Although the image reveals very few details, the image indicates that the car will resemble the MG Comet EV. The update follows Ola’s earlier showcase of its first electric car at the Sankalp 2025 event.

It is clear from the design patent photos that Ola's next little electric vehicle will have a tallboy, boxy outlook, resembling the MG Comet EV in terms of overall form. However, Ola's EV has a more useful four-door configuration with a dedicated boot, unlike the Comet's two-door design. According to the design patents, the Ola EV also seems to be bigger than its MG competitor, providing additional room for the passengers and freight.

According to design patents, Ola's compact EV maximises inside space by positioning its wheels at the far corners. This design reduces the car's front and back overhangs, giving it a more functional appearance. Meanwhile, the car’s exterior also carries this practicality, featuring a flat front fascia, tidy bumper styling, and distinctive lighting components. The finished product may also include a full-width LED light bar, which would give its simple design a contemporary feel.

Ola's versatile Gen 4 platform, which is expected to enable a wide range of future products, including a three-wheeler LCV, will serve as the foundation for the company's compact electric vehicle. The platform will include the cutting-edge 4680 Bharat cell and a recently created 16 kW electric motor. Compared to the departing Gen 3 architecture, this configuration is said to provide a 15% increase in energy efficiency.
