Montra Electric launches Rhino 5538 EV 4x2 TT and all-women-managed automated battery-swap centre
Montra Electric, a subsidiary of Murugappa Group, has launched a 55-ton electric prime mover, the Rhino 5538 EV 4×2 TT, marking a major push in electrifying India’s commercial transport sector.
Alongside the launch, the company inaugurated India’s first all-women-managed automated battery-swap centre and included Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) into its electric medium and heavy commercial vehicle fleet.
The Rhino 5538 EV gets a 282 kWh LFP battery, which can provide 380 HP and 2,000 Nm of torque with a six-speed AMT transmission and an IDC range of approximately 198 km.
The vehicle will come in two variants, one with a fixed battery pack and another with a swappable battery option, demanding only 6 minutes to juice up your vehicle. The electric mover will cost ₹1.15 crore (ex-factory), and will have a 10-year or 900,000 km AMC contract. In addition, the vehicle also comes with tailored financing solutions, a 95 per cent uptime guarantee, and advanced telematics.
In a fast-changing industry, Montra Electric stands out with its battery-swap infrastructure and all-female-monitored factory. By facilitating sub-six-minute battery swaps at more than 160 swaps daily, the company tackles issues related to charging time and total cost of ownership, establishing India as a global leader in environmentally friendly freight.
