MG Windsor takes thrown of fastest-selling EV from Nexon, recording 20K unit sales

With a whopping 20,000 unit sales in just six months, JSW MG Motor India has declared its MG Windsor EV as the fastest-selling EV model of the country, Business Standard reported

JSW MG Motor had a 31% retail market share in the EV segment at the end of March 2025, which was less than Tata Motors' 38% share. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), MG sold 30,162 units during the fiscal year 2024–25 (FY25), securing a 28 percent share, while Tata Motors sold 57,616 units, securing a 53 percent share.

With a monthly market share that increased from 14.12% in January 2024 to a peak of 41.29% in December 2024, MG Motor progressively increased its presence in India's EV industry between January 2024 and March 2025. Due in significant part to the success of the MG Windsor, MG's monthly EV sales increased from 1,203 units in January 2024 to 3,889 units by March 2025. The brand steadily increased, particularly after November 2024, when it started selling more than 3,000 pieces each month on average.

Citing advisor at Primus Partners, Anurag Singh, Business Standard reported, "As the supply chains of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are progressing, they are making EVs in meaningful numbers. The choice and availability in ‘budget EVs’ priced less than ₹20 lakh is getting better. Models like Tata Nexon, Tata Tiago, and MG Windsor are doing over 3,000 deliveries per month already."

Earlier, the best-selling model in India was the compact SUV Nexon EV by Tata Motors. Windsor, which was advertised as India's first intelligent "Crossover Utility Vehicle" (CUV), was introduced in September of last year and has shown strong demand in both emerging and metropolitan areas.

Citing Rakesh Sen, director sales and marketing, JSW MG Motor India, Business Standard reported, “With the MG Windsor, we have addressed category barriers and dispelled several myths around EVs in India through our approach. This has enabled newer customers to adapt to the EV lifestyle. These factors have propelled MG Windsor to become the fastest-selling EV model, achieving a 20,000 sales milestone in record time.”
