MG Motor India updates fast charging T&C for Windsor owners: All you need to know

Customers who purchased MG Windsor EVs on or before December 31, 2024, are now eligible for complimentary fast charging, according to revised terms and conditions from JSW MG Motor India. The new agreement now places a strict 1,000-unit cap on the owners of those vehicles, who were previously exempt from the maximum restriction. The revised terms and conditions were implemented on February 7, 2025.

Before the change, the terms and conditions mentioned that "there could be limitations or restrictions" on the number of units that could be used, but they did not specify a cap. Additionally, the original terms and conditions mentioned that MG could change or cancel the offer at any time without giving notice.

MG Motor India has clarified that the 1,000-unit balance would not be reduced for customers who previously used fast chargers. This will be the case for early owners moving forward.

According to the corporation, the goal of the revised policy was to prevent early buyers from abusing the free charge. The new regulations also sought to increase the vehicle's battery life by lowering the need for quick charging. Overuse of DC rapid charging can shorten the battery's useful life more quickly than standard AC charging.

“MG is dedicated to making electric vehicle (EV) ownership accessible and has led several initiatives to support this mission, such as providing complimentary home chargers, installation of public and community chargers, developing a unified charging platform and introducing free public charging for MG Windsor EV customers for a limited time. However, to address increasing instances of usage that exceed our fair usage policy and risk the health of the battery due to non-recommended charging practices, we are updating a new public charging usage limit. This adjustment allows us to continue providing charging on a fair usage basis while preventing misuse and ensuring equitable access for all eligible MG Windsor EV owners, enhancing the overall charging experience,” the company said in a statement.

Additionally, the business has requested that users consult the owner's manual for their car "for best practices related to battery health and longevity, including mindful use of DC fast charging."

With a 38 kWh battery pack, the new free fast charging offer would allow customers to charge around 26 times during the first year of purchase, from 0% to 100%. Therefore, assuming a 300 km real-world range on a full charge, customers could go up to 7,800 km for free.
