JSW MG Motor India’s 2026-27 Roadmap: 3 New Electrified SUVs to Watch

JSW MG Motor India is preparing a massive "Electric Offensive" for the Indian market. With three new electrified SUVs slated for launch by 2027, the brand is targeting everything from the mass market family segment to the ultra luxury EV space. Here is a deep dive into the MG IM6, the Starlight 560 (Project 520), and the next gen ZS EV successor.

1. MG IM6: The Luxury SUV-Coupe "Halo" Car

Scheduled for an October 2026 launch, the MG IM6 is set to be the flagship of the newly launched MG Select premium channel. Positioned as a direct rival to the Tesla Model Y and Kia EV6, the IM6 is a "D-segment" SUV-coupe that blends supercar performance with elite tech.

  • Performance: Internationally available in a dual motor AWD variant producing a staggering 742 hp and 802 Nm of torque.

  • Charging & Tech: Built on an 800V architecture, allowing a 10-80% charge in just 18 minutes. The interior is dominated by a 26.3-inch panoramic display.

  • Expected Price: ~Rs 60 Lakh (Imported via CBU).

2. MG "Project 520" (Starlight 560): India’s First Mass-Market 7-Seater PHEV/EV

For families needing more space, MG is bringing a rebadged version of the Wuling Starlight 560, internally codenamed Project 520. Expected between October and December 2026, this will be a locally manufactured disruptor.

  • The Big Sell: Unlike many competitors, India is expected to get the 3-row (7-seater) configuration with a massive 2,810 mm wheelbase.

  • Powertrain Options: MG will offer both a Pure EV variant (500 km CLTC range) and a Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV). The PHEV combines a 1.5L petrol engine with an electric motor for "infinite" range confidence.

  • Market Position: Aimed at the heart of the Indian SUV market, competing with the likes of the XUV700 and Safari in terms of utility.

3. The MG S5: The Next-Gen ZS EV Successor

Slated for 2027, MG will replace its veteran warrior, the ZS EV, with a completely new model likely based on the SIGMA (Intelligent Global Modular Architecture) platform.

  • Dimensions: This new SUV (potentially called the MG S5) will be larger than the current ZS EV, measuring between 4.4 and 4.5 meters.

  • Efficiency: Built on a "born-EV" platform, it will feature a completely flat floor, offering class-leading rear legroom.

  • Expected Price: ~Rs 25 to 27 Lakh, keeping it competitive against the Tata Curvv.ev and Hyundai Creta EV.

The Strategic Shift: Why This Matters

JSW MG Motor India isn't just launching cars; they are building an ecosystem. With the introduction of BaaS (Battery as a Service), MG aims to lower the entry price of EVs, making them as affordable as ICE vehicles. Furthermore, their e-Hub app continues to expand, integrating charging networks across India to eliminate range anxiety.
