Mercedes announces launch of E-Class EV by 2027

Competitor of Tesla and BMW, a completely electric Mercedes E-Class is in development and will be on the market by 2027, Mercedes-Benz stated at its Capital Market Day presentation. The vehicle is anticipated to have new features, a longer range, and premium specifications. The German brand has also revealed information on a smaller version of the G-Class and the S-Class facelift, Autocar has reported.

The teaser for the electric Mercedes sedan showed a silhouette resembling that of the current E-Class which could combine aspects of the next-generation Mercedes electric vehicles with its ICE counterpart. This new E-Class EV will include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) up to Level 3 and be bigger than its ICE equivalent. It might be offered alongside the E-Class petrol and diesel variants and take the place of the EQE Sedan that is sold abroad. Mercedes only offers the E-Class LWB in India, and it costs between Rs 78.5 lakh and Rs 92.5 lakh.

The company has already discussed creating a scaled-down version of its G-Class SUV. Mercedes aims to increase the number of SUVs in its lineup with the introduction of the G-Class electric, formally known as the G 580 with EQ Technology. The new SUV will include a four-wheel drive, an internal combustion engine (ICE), and an all-electric drivetrain.

In a few countries, Mercedes might also sell the "baby" G as a plug-in hybrid. For distinctiveness, the future small G-Class's nameplate will read "g" rather than "G". Similar to the facelift for the S-Class, the Manufaktur package will be available here. For comparison, the AMG G 63 costs Rs 3.64 crore, while the G 580 costs Rs 3 crore.
