Maruti Suzuki Codenames Next Electric Vehicle 'YMC': 3-Row Electric MPV Showcasing at 2027 Bharat Mobility Expo
Following the debut of the e Vitara, Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has officially confirmed that its second battery electric vehicle (BEV) will be unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in February 2027.
Codenamed YMC, the upcoming electric vehicle is expected to enter the market as a high-utility, 3-row electric Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), expanding Maruti Suzuki's zero-emission portfolio in India.
Maruti Suzuki YMC EV: Key Highlights & Expectations
- 3-Row Seating & Utility: The YMC electric MPV is slated to offer a spacious three-row seating layout, making it an electric counterpart to popular family movers like the Ertiga and XL6.
- Shared Platform Architecture: Built on the same dedicated electric platform as the e Vitara, the YMC is likely to feature similar powertrain configurations, including single-motor and dual-motor setups with localized battery pack assembly.
- Target Segment & Price Range: Positioning itself in the accessible family EV space, the YMC EV is expected to compete in the sub-₹20 lakh price bracket.
- Global Manufacturing Hub: In line with Suzuki’s global EV expansion strategy, the YMC MPV will be manufactured in India for both domestic consumption and export markets across right-hand drive (RHD) and left-hand drive (LHD) regions.
Market Positioning & Rivals
The 3-row electric MPV category in India is slated for rapid expansion. Upon launch, Maruti's YMC EV will directly rival upcoming mid-spec electric people-movers, including the Kia Carens Clavis EV, as well as lower-trim variants of higher-segment electric SUVs and MPVs.
Dedicated EV Platform & Powertrain Architecture
The YMC electric MPV will be built on Suzuki's dedicated Heartect-e (27PL) skateboard EV architecture, which also underpins the e Vitara. Designed specifically for zero-emission vehicles, this platform offers a flat floor structure to maximize third-row cabin space. It is expected to feature 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery pack options, delivering a driving range of over 500 km per charge along with DC fast-charging capabilities.
