Mahindra Launches UDO Electric Auto Rickshaw at ₹3.59 Lakh: 200km Range and Airplane Inspired Design

Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited (MLMML) has officially disrupted the Indian electric three wheeler market with the launch of the Mahindra UDO. Priced at an introductory ₹3,58,999 (ex showroom), the UDO is positioned as a premium yet accessible solution for India’s rapidly growing last mile connectivity needs.

With a name derived from the Hindi word for "to fly," the UDO promises to elevate the standards of the electric auto rickshaw segment through superior range, advanced safety features, and a driver centric design.

Mahindra UDO: Price, Warranty, and Value Proposition

The Mahindra UDO enters the market with a competitive pricing strategy. While the standard ex showroom price is set at ₹3,84,299, early adopters can avail of the introductory price of ₹3.59 lakh.

To ensure low cost of ownership and peace of mind for fleet operators and individual drivers, Mahindra is offering:

  • Extended Warranty: 6 years or 150,000 km (whichever comes first).

  • Free Service: Complimentary servicing up to 100,000 km.

  • UDAY NXT Scheme: Includes ₹20 lakh accidental insurance coverage and financial counseling for drivers.

Industry Leading Range and Performance

The standout feature of the Mahindra UDO is its 200 km real world driving range, addressing the "range anxiety" often associated with commercial EVs.

Key Technical Specifications:

  • Battery Pack: 11.7 kWh Lithium ion battery with an IP67 rating (dust and water resistant).

  • Power & Torque: 10 kW peak power and 52 Nm of torque.

  • Top Speed: 55 km/h in ‘Race’ mode.

  • Driving Modes: Three distinct modes Range (efficiency), Ride (balanced), and Race (performance).

  • Smart Features: Equipped with regenerative braking, hill hold assist, reverse throttle, and a creep function for heavy traffic.

Airplane Inspired Design and Driver Comfort

Mahindra has moved away from traditional aesthetics, opting for an airplane inspired design and monocoque construction. The vehicle features a specialized "pilot seat" for the driver, which is 20% thicker than industry standards to reduce fatigue during long shifts.

Passenger comfort has also been prioritized with enhanced legroom and headroom, supported by a sophisticated suspension system comprising a dual fork front suspension and independent rear suspension.

Manufacturing Excellence at Zaheerabad

The UDO is manufactured at Mahindra’s state of the art facility in Zaheerabad. The plant has undergone significant upgrades, including robotized production lines and automated battery assembly, ensuring high build quality and consistency.

Suman Mishra, MD and CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, noted that the UDO is designed to "reimagine the last mile landscape" by combining high technology with economic viability.

Market Outlook

India remains the world's largest market for electric three wheelers. With the launch of the UDO, Mahindra solidifies its position as the leading player in the electric commercial vehicle space, competing directly with offerings from Bajaj Auto and Piaggio.
