Mahindra to launch XEV 9e and BE 6e Electric SUVs in 2024-25
Mahindra and Mahindra, an Indian carmaker, has announced that sales of their highly awaited born electric vehicle (EVs) would begin in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2024-25, Hindustan Auto Reported.
According to the report, the update came when Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director & CEO of the Auto & Farm Sectors at Mahindra shared the company’s future EV lineup plan during a press conference.
As per the reports, the newly planned vehicles to launch are the Mahindra XEV 9e and the BE 6e. While both cars will be unveiled in the third quarter of FY25, Mahindra has not confirmed the exact timing of the launch. The new electric vehicles will face fierce competition in the market, with Hyundai intending to launch its Creta EV around the same time, and Maruti Suzuki's e Vitara expected to go into production in spring 2025.
Jejurikar stated that the company is currently focusing all its attention on its next products, despite the dropping sales of the Mahindra XUV400, the company’s only car in the electric portfolio. Following the update, the XUV400, which sold 1,800 units, will no longer be the company's main product in the electric vehicle market. Mahindra aims to focus its investment and resources on the XEV 9e and BE 6e, with dedicated manufacturing lines established at its Chakan facility for these vehicles.
The Mahindra XEV 9e, formerly known as the XUV.e9, has already been sighted in testing, with spy photos revealing many unusual design aspects. The EV has a coupe-style form with a sloping roofline and vertically orientated LED headlights, which complement the vehicle's slim appearance. Inside, the XEV 9e is believed to have a futuristic three-screen arrangement, with a separate screen for the front passenger and a bigger driver display behind the steering wheel. The EV will also use Mahindra's AdrenoXconnect technology, which was initially launched in the XUV700.
