Mahindra Hikes ICE SUV Prices by 2.5% But Born Electric (BE) Models Spared to Fuel EV Growth

Mahindra & Mahindra has officially implemented a price hike of up to 2.5% across its Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Commercial Vehicle (CV) range, effective today, April 6, 2026. However, in a strategic move for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, the company has completely exempted its "Born Electric" (BE) lineup from this revision.

EV Buyers Spared: A Strategic Push

While popular models like the Scorpio-N and Thar are getting more expensive, Mahindra is keeping prices steady for its newest electric superstars to maintain its massive sales momentum. The following electric models will not see a price increase today:

Mahindra’s Rise to the #2 EV Spot

This decision comes on the heels of a record breaking March 2026, where Mahindra overtook JSW MG Motor to become India’s second largest electric carmaker by monthly sales. By freezing EV prices while ICE costs rise, Mahindra is nudging premium SUV buyers toward its cleaner, INGLO platform based electric offerings.

Market Comparison (March 2026 Sales):

  1. Tata Motors: 8,224 units (39.2% market share).

  2. Mahindra: 5,217 units (21.2% market share up from 7.8% in FY25).

  3. JSW MG Motor: 5,113 units (26.4% annual market share).

What This Means for the Indian EV User

For the consumer, the "price gap" between high end diesel SUVs and modern electric SUVs is narrowing. While a top end Scorpio-N or Thar ROXX could now cost up to ₹50,000 more, the BE 6 and XEV 9e offer a stable price point alongside lower running costs. This move is expected to sustain the 141% Year on Year growth Mahindra witnessed in the EV segment last month.

ICE Exceptions: XUV 7XO Price Protection

Even in the ICE segment, Mahindra is playing a long game with its newest launch, the XUV 7XO. The company has confirmed that the first 40,000 bookings are price protected, ensuring that early ICE adopters are treated with the same priority as the EV community.
