KSEB plans to transform EV charging stations into hi-tech ‘Take a Break’ zones.

Long-distance travellers in Kerla may soon enjoy 'Take a Break' facilities, as the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) intends to transform electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The new concept will introduce coffee shops, rest spaces, and restrooms beside EV charging stations so that passengers can take a break from their exhausting journey.

According to KSEB's estimations, the state will have 15 million electric automobiles by 2030. At a rate of 0.15 kilowatts per kilometre, KSEB expects EV charging will consume 2,700 million units of power. KSEB now operates 1,169 charging stations on electricity poles and 485 private charging stations.

As the number of EVs increases, more charging stations will be installed. There are also plans to establish fast-charging stations beside major routes in collaboration with hotels, lodges, restaurants, and homestays. These stations will require 1000 square feet of area. The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT) will give financial help for installing charging stations and solar panels.
