Indian Railways Plans EV Charging Stations at Prayagraj, Manikpur and Aligarh Railway Stations

Indian Railways is expanding its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure with plans to establish EV charging stations at three major railway stations in Uttar Pradesh. The initiative is being undertaken by North Central Railway (NCR) as part of efforts to make railway stations more accessible for electric vehicle users.

North Central Railway has floated tenders for the installation, operation and maintenance of EV charging stations at Prayagraj Junction, Manikpur and Aligarh railway stations. The move is expected to strengthen public EV charging infrastructure and provide additional charging points at strategically located railway stations.

EV Charging Stations Planned at Three Railway Stations

The proposed charging infrastructure will be developed at:

• Prayagraj Junction
• Manikpur Railway Station
• Aligarh Railway Station

According to available tender information, the charging facilities are planned under arrangements that include their installation, operation and maintenance. For Aligarh, the tender specifies a five-year period for operation and maintenance.

Why Railway Stations Could Become Important EV Charging Points

Railway stations can offer a practical location for EV charging because they are generally situated along major transportation routes and already have access to electrical infrastructure.

According to ELE Times, EV charging facilities at railway stations could work as supplementary public charging points, helping EV users charge their vehicles while travelling or accessing railway services.
