Indian EV sales cross 20 lakh sales mark in FY25, 2W holds more than 50% share

The total sales of electric vehicles (EVs) in India reached 61,66 lakh units by the end of the fiscal year 2024–2025, with over 20 lakh units sold during this period, according to the Annual India EV Report.

More than half of the sales were electric two-wheelers (F2WS), with passenger electric three-wheelers (E3W-P) accounting for about 36% of the India EV market in FY25.

State-wise sales distribution

Up until March 2025, the top five states for total EV sales were Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh. Bihar replaced Delhi to make the top five list for FY25 alone. Together, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar accounted for almost half of the yearly EV market share.

When comparing FY25 to FY24, the E2W category saw an annual gain of almost 19%. Together, the top three companies in the registered E2W category—Ola Electric, TVS Motors, and Bajaj—held more than 70% of the market.

Sales of both passenger and cargo electric three-wheelers increased by almost 11% annually. With a combined share of 25%, Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, Bajaj Auto, and YC Electric dominated the E3W-P market. The same three companies also held a dominant position in the cargo segment, with a combined share of about 19%.

In FY25, electric vehicles also had an 11% year-over-year rise. With roughly 53% of the market, Tata Motors continued to dominate, followed by MG Motor (28%).

Sales of electric buses, or E-Buses, fell 3% in FY25 compared to the prior fiscal year. The segment was headed by Tata Motors, Olectra Greentech, and PMI Electro, who together accounted for over 69% of all E-Bus sales during the course of the year.
