IIT Madras Startup Plugzmart Launches India’s First Multi-Network EV Charging Platform ‘Relay’
In a game-changing move for India’s electric vehicle ecosystem, IIT Madras-incubated startup Plugzmart has unveiled ‘Relay’, the country’s first multi-network EV charging platform. The innovative system allows a single charger to connect to multiple Charging Management Systems (CMS) at once, making it accessible via any app or network in real-time.
A Solution to India’s EV Charging Bottleneck
One of the biggest barriers to EV adoption in India has been limited charger visibility and accessibility. Most chargers are locked to a single network, forcing EV users to juggle multiple apps and limiting utilisation for operators. Plugzmart’s Relay solves this by creating a homegrown, OCPP-compliant middleware that connects chargers across networks without any hardware upgrade.
Key Features of Plugzmart ‘Relay’:
- Multi-network connectivity: One charger can now appear on multiple platforms simultaneously.
- Real-time dynamic routing: Sessions are intelligently managed for seamless access and accurate billing.
- Boosted charger uptime & ROI: Increases visibility and revenue for charging point operators (CPOs).
- Vendor flexibility: Eliminates CMS vendor lock-in; operators can switch or expand networks anytime.
- No hardware changes needed: Works with existing OCPP chargers for fast, scalable deployment.
Driving EV Adoption Across India
“With Relay, we are eliminating one of the biggest pain points in EV charging. By enabling chargers to be seen and used across multiple networks, we are creating a truly open and interoperable ecosystem,” said Raghavendar TS, Director – Software Business Unit, Plugzmart.
The platform features a unified dashboard for operators to monitor all connected CMS systems and route sessions based on user demand. Even if one network goes down, Relay ensures uninterrupted access, making it a major boost for EV fleets, public charging infrastructure, and rural expansion.
Why This Matters for India’s EV Future
India’s EV charging network is projected to grow 10x by 2030. With government policies pushing for interoperability and public convenience, Plugzmart’s Relay could become the backbone of India’s EV charging infrastructure. It maximises charger utilisation, supports faster ROI for operators, and enhances user convenience, all critical for accelerating mass EV adoption.
