Hyundai to launch Made-in-India compact e-SUV based on Inster 

Hyundai Motor Company has confirmed the launch of its new compact e-SUV, which is expected to go live for sale in India in 2027. The new vehicle is expected to be based on the Hyundai Inster and is marketed as designed, engineered, and built in India for Indian customers”, as per the CEO of the company, José Muñoz.

 

Earlier this year, Hyundai India received approval from its Korean parent company to compete with the Tata Punch EV. This new sub-4-meter electric SUV, code-named HE1i, will be supported by the company's economical and worldwide E-GMP (K) platform, which is also used in the Hyundai Inster that has a global presence. 

 

As per the report by Autocar, with locally sourced batteries from Exide, Hyundai's Sriperumbudur plant will construct the new electric SUV.

 

The company has confirmed that the new EV will come in two battery variants, one with a standard range and another with a longer range. The new Hyundai EV may resemble the Euro-spec Inster, which comes in 42kWh (Standard Range) and 49kWh (Long Range) options and provides ranges of 300km and 355km, respectively. The standard variant Inster comes with 97 hp, 147Nm motor, and the Long Range variant features a 115hp, 147Nm motor.

 

In addition, a Level 2 ADAS suite and an infotainment system that can get updates over the air (OTA) are two other confirmed features of the upcoming Hyundai compact EV.
