Hyundai Ioniq 5 achieves 5,802m altitude change, sets Guinness World Record

Hyundai Motor’s flagship e-SUV, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has registered its name in the Guinness World Record for the greatest altitude change by an electric car. The achievement was recorded when the Ioniq 5 completed its journey from Umling La at 5,799m (19,024 ft) above sea level, to Kuttanad in Kerala situated only at 3m above sea level. Travelling from the highest driving point in India to the lowest, the vehicle marked an altitude change of 5,802m.


The 4,900-kilometer distance was accomplished in 14 days, navigating through difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions. This demonstrated the Hyundai Ioniq 5's performance, robustness, and cutting-edge technology by effortlessly managing environments ranging from humid coastal regions in Kerala to cold temperatures in the Himalayas, a report by Financial Express read. 


Speaking about the accomplishment, Hyundai Motor India Managing Director Unsoo Kim stated, “We are incredibly proud to see the Hyundai Ioniq 5 create history by achieving the Guinness World Record for the highest altitude change by an electric car. This achievement is a testament to Hyundai’s unwavering commitment to innovation, technological excellence, and sustainability. The Ioniq 5’s performance in such extreme conditions reflects its engineering prowess and durability. At Hyundai, we are dedicated to pushing boundaries and setting new benchmarks in e-mobility, and this record further reinforces our vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,” the Financial Express reported.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUV comes with an automatic transmission and has a 72.6-kWh electric battery that produces 214.56 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque. It also offers advanced safety features, a great driving range, and cutting-edge smart technology for a flexible e-mobility experience. Moreover, the lithium-ion battery of the vehicle comes with a warranty of 8 years or 1, 60,000 km. 


The Hyundai Ioniq 5, which is based on the cutting-edge Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), has a futuristic appearance influenced by Hyundai's Pony.
