Henkel India Flags Off Mid-Haul Electric Truck Ops—250 km Range & 8-Ton Payload!

India’s commercial EV landscape just took a major leap forward!
Henkel Adhesive Technologies, in collaboration with an EV retrofitting and logistics partner, has officially launched India’s first mid-haul re-powered electric truck initiative for sustainable freight operations.

This game-changing pilot project connects two key industrial corridors:

  • Chennai to Pune (1,321 km)
  • Pune to Halol (713 km)

Each re-powered electric truck offers a 250 km range per charge and a payload capacity of up to 8 tons, making it ideal for inter-city commercial logistics.

Paving the Road to Net-Zero Emissions

Henkel is aligning its operations with its global net-zero goal for 2045, and this pilot project is a vital step toward reducing its Scope 1, 2, and 3 carbon emissions.

"This shift from conventional drivetrains toward sustainable alternatives such as re-powered electric trucks will go a long way in abating our logistics emissions."
— Henkel India Spokesperson

Henkel estimates that one round trip between Chennai and Pune will eliminate over 1,212 kg of GHG emissions, showcasing the environmental impact potential at scale.

What Powers the Re-Powered EV Trucks?

The trucks used in this project are existing diesel-powered models retrofitted with a full electric powertrain kit, creating a cost-effective and carbon-efficient solution for mid-haul logistics.

Key Specs:

  • Range: 250 km per charge
  • Payload: Up to 8 tons
  • Routes Covered: Chennai–Pune, Pune–Halol
  • Emission Savings per Trip: ~1.2 tonnes CO₂

Henkel’s India Footprint

Henkel Adhesive Technologies India Pvt Ltd, headquartered in Navi Mumbai, is a leader in adhesives, sealants, and functional coatings. The company operates:

  • 4 manufacturing plants
  • Multiple innovation hubs
  • A global technology center

The Indian arm is part of the global Henkel Group, which reported €10.97 billion in revenue from adhesives alone in 2024—51% of the company’s total revenue.

Why This Matters for India’s EV Freight Sector

The launch of Henkel's electric truck operations supports India’s broader EV adoption, sustainable transport, and green logistics agenda. With government incentives under FAME II and National Logistics Policy, mid-haul electric trucking is expected to witness accelerated growth over the next decade.
