Guidelines to boost EV charging infra notified shows Eco Survey 23-24

The guidelines and new standards are expected to benefit the country’s infrastructure for EV charging. According to the guidelines, companies or individuals wishing to install charging stations must follow these regulations.

Guidelines to boost EV charging infra notified shows Eco Survey 23-24

To support the whole EV ecosystem, the government has released "Guidelines and Standards on Charging Infrastructure" in response to an increase in the number of electric vehicles (EVs).


The Economic Survey for the financial year 2023–24, presented in the Parliament on July 22, stated, "Given the increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs), 'Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles – Guidelines and Standards’ have been notified to promote the ecosystem of charging infrastructure."


The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) on June 28 updated the Guidelines and Standards for Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure.


Since their first release on December 14, 2018, the standards have undergone at least six revisions. The guidelines and new standards are expected to benefit the country’s infrastructure for EV charging. According to the guidelines, companies or individuals wishing to install charging stations must follow these regulations.


The FAME scheme's phase II enabled an expenditure of Rs 11,500 crore for FY20–FY24. The action supported 7,000 e-buses, 5 lakh three-wheelers, and around 10 lakh two-wheelers to increase demand for EVs.


The government in its interim budget stated that to meet the nation's goal of net zero emissions by 2070, they will prioritise EV production and bolster the infrastructure necessary for charging.


“As India moves towards its net zero emission target by 2070, the Government will work towards expanding and strengthening the EV ecosystem as well as developing the charging infrastructure," Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman stated in her interim budget speech"
