EVs will be equal to the prices of its ICE counterpart: Nitin Gadkari

Within six months, the nationwide prices of electric vehicles will be the same as those of petrol-powered automobiles, citing Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, PTI reported on Wednesday.

Gadkari was speaking at the 32nd Convergence India and 10th Smart Cities India Expo where he remarked that the development of the 212-km Delhi-Dehradun access-controlled expressway will be concluded in the upcoming three months.

He said, "Within six months, the cost of electric vehicles will be equivalent to the cost of petrol vehicles," the report read.

According to the minister, the government's objective is import substitution, pollution-free and cost-effective production.

He further added that India must develop its infrastructure if it hopes to become the world's third-largest economy.

"By making good roads, we can reduce our logistics cost," citing Gadkari, PTI reported.

According to Gadkari, the government is dedicated to creating smart cities and smart transportation, and the country's economy has a bright future.

PTI reported, "We are working on mass rapid transport on electricity," he said.

Gadkari emphasized that in order to lower the cost of building new roads, innovation and new technology must be promoted.
