EV policy of Delhi government to be extended up to March

The transport department's senior officials said that the Delhi government has decided to prolong its policy for

electric vehicles (EVs)

by an additional three months. Kailash Gahlot, the minister of transportation, also affirmed this.

They stated that the policy will be prolonged through the end of March 2024 and that cabinet approval will be granted shortly. The EV policy states that

two-wheelers

can receive a subsidy of Rs 5,000 per kWh of battery capacity; three-wheelers can receive a subsidy of Rs 30,000 regardless of overall cost or battery capacity; and four-wheelers can receive a subsidy of Rs 10,000 per kWh of battery capacity for the first 1,000 EVs registered under the scheme.

Since a new policy hasn't been redied yet, the EV policy, which was set to expire on August 8, 2023, has been repeatedly extended.

The transportation department has already declared that the strategy was unworkable due to the departure of fellows, experts, and advisers from the agency. Gahlot stated that these individuals possessed technological know-how and were assisting in the development of many transportation department policies, such as EV 2.0 and cab and bus aggregators.

According to officials, the new EV policy, which will be known as Delhi EV policy 2.0, is virtually complete. The exact date on which the policy would take effect is still up in the air.

A statement issued during the stakeholder consultation process for the draft of the revised Delhi EV policy claims that the department received numerous recommendations for improving incentives for EV buyers, such as interest rate rebates, parking incentives, and easier financing options.
