EKA Mobility Delivers Electric Buses to AIIMS Delhi: A Big Push for Green Public Transport

In a major step towards sustainable urban mobility, EKA Mobility has successfully delivered three 9-meter electric buses to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. The initiative was funded by Power Grid Corporation of India under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and procured through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) portal.

What Makes These EKA Electric Buses Special?

The newly supplied buses come with 23+1 seating capacity, plush pushback seats, and hydraulic lifts to support wheelchair accessibility, ensuring inclusivity for differently-abled passengers. This design makes the fleet an ideal solution for last-mile connectivity within AIIMS, benefitting patients, staff, and visitors alike.

Ceremony & Key Stakeholders

The buses were flagged off ceremonially by R.K. Tyagi, CMD of Power Grid Corporation, and Dr. M. Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.

Rohit Srivastava, Business Head & Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, emphasized:

“This project reflects our commitment to sustainable, inclusive mobility and strengthens India’s transition to clean public transport.”

About EKA Mobility

Backed by global equity partners Mitsui & Co. (Japan) and VDL Groep (Netherlands), EKA Mobility has been emerging as a strong player in the electric commercial vehicle space. Its mission is to democratize EV adoption through low-investment production and sharable technologies, making green mobility more accessible for institutions and cities across India.

Why This Matters for India’s EV Push

  • Public Sector EV Adoption: With AIIMS adopting electric buses, other government institutions may follow suit.

  • CSR-Driven EV Projects: More corporates could fund EV mobility projects under CSR, accelerating adoption.

  • Boost for Indian EV Bus Market: As rivals like Olectra Greentech and JBM Auto expand, EKA’s AIIMS project sets a strong precedent.

With festive season demand approaching and rising EV adoption across cities, such institutional partnerships could become a game-changer for India’s EV ecosystem.
