Delhi makes history: EV monthly sales reached 7000+.
In the last inning of the previous year, Delhi recorded the highest ever state-UT-wise monthly Electric Vehicle(EV) sales in the whole nation, the figure shows.
In December 2022, Delhi registered 7,046 new EV users pushing the year-on-year growth to 86 percent. Playing a significant role in the update, the state EV policy increased to 93,239 e-vehicle. In this, two-wheeler acquires almost 55 percent of the total sales.
In a press release, Kailash Gahlot, Transport Minister of India, said that Delhi has always been ahead in the front of the EV market, along with the necessary public and private charging infrastructure, making it the country’s EV capital. The state at the moment has a total of more than 2300 charging points and 200+ battery swapping facilities.
Launched on August 7, 2020, Delhi EV policy recognizes 2W and 3W as the priority vehicle segment. The policy targets EVs to acquire 25 percent of new vehicle registration by 2024, increasing the rapid adoption of EVs.
Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, on February 2021 launched the ‘Switch Delhi’ campaign to spread awareness of the EV benefits and its role in making Delhi pollution-free.
With the following update, Delhi is closer to its mission of achieving two-thirds of its target. Delhi’s i3 model, i.e., Incentivisation, Innovation, and Inclusion, has been the leading role player in the success.
The state aims to spend almost Rs 1,500 crores which will be used to electrify 56 depots for housing 10,000+ buses. The ministry further thanked all the stakeholders and citizens of Delhi for making the policy a considerable success.
