Continental Automotive crosses 100 million milestone in manufacturing Wheel Speed Sensors
Continental Automotive India, on Friday, crossed the manufacturing milestone of one hundred million Wheel Speed Sensors (WSS) and ten million Electronic Brake Systems (EBS) in its Gurgaon plant. The manufactured components are designed to complement Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS) while ensuring the vehicle’s safety, Autocar professional reported.
Continental's EBS portfolio comprises ESC for passenger vehicles and ABS for passenger cars and two-wheelers. ESC improves a vehicle's directional stability and steerability, whereas ABS prevents wheel lock-up and preserves steerability under braking. WSS signals are necessary for control systems such as ABS and ESC.
According to a 2023 report by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Road safety is one of the major concerns in India, where every hour, the country observes 53 accidents and 19 deaths, making the daily average of accidents and deaths 1,264 and 42 respectively. To ensure safety and mitigate these challenges, ESC regulations and ABS technology were mandated in 2019 and 2022.
Citing Sukhdeep Sandhu, Head of Safety and Motion at Continental Automotive India, Autocar professional reported, "Safety is non-negotiable. At Continental, we have consistently brought relevant technologies to the market for our customers, helping make vehicles and our roads safer. Our expertise in active and passive safety systems is a key driver in reducing traffic-related fatalities, injuries, and road accidents."
Continental's long-term goal, "Vision Zero," aims to eliminate road fatalities, injuries, and collisions. The firm is a significant WSS producer in India, selling these components to prominent OEMs domestically and exporting to Asian and European markets.
