BYD India has taken off the wraps from its highly anticipated DM-i (Dual Mode Intelligent) Super Plug-In Hybrid technology. Marking a strategic pivot from its pure electric vehicle portfolio, the automaker confirmed that the BYD Seal U SUV (globally recognized also as the Sealion 6) will be its first ever plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) to launch in India by the end of 2026.

Unlike traditional parallel hybrids common in the Indian automotive market, BYD’s DM-i setup works on an "electric-first" philosophy.
