BMW Group India Dominates Luxury EV Market: Electric Sales Surge by 83% in Q1 2026

BMW Group India has kicked off 2026 with a massive milestone, reporting that one in every four cars sold in Q1 was an electric vehicle. With an 83% YoY growth in EV sales, the brand now commands over 70% of India’s luxury electric car market.

A Quarter of "Electric" Records

BMW Group India delivered a total of 4,567 units in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 17% overall growth. However, the real star of the show was the electric portfolio. The group sold 1,185 EVs during the January–March period, a staggering 83% increase compared to Q1 2025.

This surge has pushed the EV share to 26% of BMW’s total sales volume in India, cementing the brand's "Electric First" approach.

The Undisputed Leader in Luxury EVs

While the luxury segment as a whole is seeing increased competition, BMW has managed to maintain a dominant 70% market share in the luxury EV space. This success is attributed to having the widest electric portfolio in the country, ranging from the BMW iX1 and i4 to the flagship i7 and the newly launched MINI Countryman SE ALL4.

Expanding the EV Charging Ecosystem

Beyond just selling cars, BMW is focusing on "Ease of Charging" to drive adoption. The company highlighted that BMW and MINI customers now have access to over 6,000 charging points across India. This ecosystem includes:

  • Destination Charging : At premium hotels and malls.

  • Route-based Charging : Strategically placed chargers for long-distance travel.

  • Smart Concierge Services : Assisting owners in finding and booking chargers in real-time.

What’s Next for BMW EVs in India?

Hardeep Singh Brar, President and CEO of BMW Group India, stated that the brand enters 2026 in a position of strength despite global headwinds. To maintain this lead, BMW plans to launch 27 new products throughout 2026, with a heavy emphasis on further electrifying their lineup and updating existing Gen 3 models.

With the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase already on the horizon, the German automaker is clearly not slowing down in its race to electrify India’s luxury roads.
